ROLE SUMMARY SES is seeking a hands-on AI leader to build and lead the enterprise AI Engineering & Solutions function. The role will combine technical leadership, solution architecture, engineering management, and business engagement to transform AI opportunities into secure, scalable, production-ready solutions. The Director, Head of AI Engineering & Solutions will lead a team of AI engineers and architects, establish reusable platforms and engineering practices, and serve as the senior technical authority for AI implementation. The role will partner with IT leadership, business leaders, technology teams, data, cybersecurity, enterprise architecture, and AI governance to deliver measurable business outcomes. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES · AI Engineering & Technical Leadership Lead the enterprise AI Engineering & Solutions function and build a high-performing team of AI engineers and architects. Serve as the technical authority for AI, setting engineering standards, architecture patterns, and delivery practices. Provide hands-on technical leadership, develop senior engineering talent, and foster a culture of rapid experimentation, sound engineering, accountability, and delivery. · AI Solutions Architecture & Delivery Lead the architecture and delivery of AI solutions from concept and prototype through production and lifecycle management. Determine the appropriate technical approach for each business problem and guide teams through architecture, security, scalability, performance, and cost trade-offs. Ensure solutions are secure, reliable, maintainable, observable, and designed for enterprise scale. · AI Platform & Engineering Strategy Define and evolve the enterprise AI technology stack, maximizing the value of the Microsoft ecosystem while objectively evaluating other technologies where appropriate. Establish reusable platforms, patterns, components, and integration approaches that accelerate delivery and reduce one-off solutions. Drive build vs. buy decisions and manage the technical economics of the AI platform, including consumption, capacity, and licensing. · Business Solutions & Value Delivery Partner with business and technology leaders to identify, prioritize, and deliver high-value AI opportunities. Translate business problems into practical solutions, using rapid prototyping to validate feasibility and value. Move validated solutions from experimentation into production, with clear measures of adoption, performance, cost, and business value. Recommend simpler alternatives, including non-AI solutions, when AI does not meet the value or feasibility threshold. Execution: Moves teams from experimentation to secure, reliable, adopted production solutions with urgency and discipline. Communication and Influence: Explains complex technical decisions clearly and builds alignment across executives, business stakeholders, architects, and engineers. People Leadership: Builds high-performing technical teams, develops future leaders, and creates a culture of accountability, learning, and constructive technical debate. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline; advanced degree preferred. Extensive experience across software engineering, solution architecture, data, cloud, or technology delivery, including significant recent experience in AI engineering. Extensive experience leading engineering or architecture teams, with demonstrated success building teams and developing senior technical talent. Experience in leading AI teams, setting enterprise AI direction, establishing governance and delivery frameworks, and scaling production AI solutions Proven experience architecting and delivering production AI solutions, including generative AI, LLM-based applications, RAG, AI agents and agentic workflows, and enterprise integrations. Strong working knowledge of cloud and AI platforms, including the Microsoft AI ecosystem, combined with the ability to evaluate alternative technologies objectively. Experience establishing reusable AI platforms, engineering standards, architecture patterns, integration approaches, and lifecycle practices at enterprise scale. Strong understanding of software engineering, APIs, data platforms, security, observability, model evaluation, cost management, and production operations. Demonstrated ability to partner with business and technology leaders, assess technical and commercial trade-offs, and translate AI opportunities into measurable business outcomes.
