About this role

Job Title: Electrical Engineering / Electronics Test & Troubleshooting TechnicianJob DescriptionWe are seeking an Electrical Engineering / Electronics Test & Troubleshooting Technician to support the development of next-generation medical device products. In this role, you test, troubleshoot, and analyze prototype electronic assemblies and printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), ensuring they perform reliably through prototype and verification phases. You work closely with electrical, systems, and software engineers to identify, isolate, and resolve hardware issues while supporting product verification, research and development, and pre-production activities.

Responsibilities

  • Execute board bring-up procedures on prototype electronic assemblies and validate the functionality of newly assembled PCBAs.
  • Perform electrical testing on PCBAs, collect performance data, and accurately document test results.
  • Communicate test findings clearly to engineering teams and collaborate on next steps and corrective actions.
  • Perform board-level and component-level troubleshooting to diagnose electrical and functional issues on prototype PCBAs.
  • Use oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), power supplies, and other bench and laboratory test equipment to isolate failures and perform failure analysis.
  • Read and interpret schematics, block diagrams, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and datasheets to identify root causes of issues.
  • Work closely with electrical, systems, and software engineers to recommend and support corrective actions and design improvements.
  • Support Design Verification (DV) activities by executing defined test procedures and reporting anomalies and defects.
  • Assist engineers in validating new designs and supporting prototype and pre-production development efforts, including NPI and design verification testing.
  • Perform occasional soldering, component replacement, and rework on PCBAs, including fine-pitch and microscope-assisted work when required.
  • Support implementation of engineering changes and rework instructions in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Follow established test procedures and laboratory practices to ensure consistent, reliable test results and documentation.
  • Contribute to medical device research and development activities by providing accurate diagnostic input and repair support for prototype hardware.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of experience in electronics assembly, testing, or troubleshooting, preferably in a laboratory or R&D environment.
  • Strong board-level and component-level troubleshooting skills using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, and other bench test equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform failure analysis using test equipment on electronic assemblies and PCBAs.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics, datasheets, block diagrams, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
  • Hands-on experience with PCBA testing, board bring-up, and diagnostic activities on prototype hardware.
  • Experience working with test procedures and documenting test results, anomalies, and corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with electronics used in medical devices or other regulated environments.
  • Ability to perform soldering, rework, and repair at the component level, including work under a microscope when needed.
  • Comfort working in research and development settings with prototype and pre-production hardware.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in medical device development, particularly implantable systems or work in regulated environments such as ISO-compliant facilities.
  • IPC J-STD-001 or IPC-A-610 certification, or experience working to these standards for soldering and PCBA workmanship.
  • Familiarity with IPC-620 standards for cable and wiring assemblies.
  • Experience supporting prototype and new product introduction (NPI) builds and design verification testing.
  • Exposure to Altium design files and the ability to use design documentation to aid troubleshooting and test.
  • Background in research and development environments focused on electronics, PCBAs, and component-level diagnostics.
  • Experience with laboratory workflows, including use of microscopes, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other test equipment in an R&D setting.
  • Interest in growing toward engineering roles and expanding responsibilities as the product and program mature.

Work EnvironmentYou work at a medical device research and development site focused on building a next-generation implantable neuromodulation system. The program is in early prototyping, with first prototype boards arriving soon and design verification planned in the near term, offering a ground-floor opportunity to influence the product from its earliest hardware iterations. You collaborate daily with experienced electrical design, systems, and software engineers in a lab environment equipped with oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, microscopes, and other standard electronic test equipment.

The setting emphasizes hands-on work with prototype PCBAs, structured test procedures, and close communication with the engineering team. As you learn the design from the first prototypes and carry that knowledge into design verification, you have the opportunity to grow your skills and progress toward engineering-level responsibilities within a dynamic startup-style environment.
