About this role
Job Title: DrafterJob DescriptionThis drafting role focuses on mechanical drafting for the manufacturing of building products. You use AutoCAD daily and ideally work in Revit or another 3D program to create accurate models and CNC router files. You collaborate closely with the manufacturing facility, allowing you to see the products you design and understand how systems and layers work together in a real-world environment.
Responsibilities
- Produce detailed mechanical drawings using AutoCAD and, preferably, Revit or another 3D design program.
- Create and modify accurate 2D and 3D models that reflect how building systems and layers integrate and function together.
- Prepare and refine drawings and files suitable for CNC router operations and other manufacturing processes.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, specifications, and related technical documentation to ensure designs meet project requirements.
- Translate design concepts and technical information into clear, precise drafting documents that can be used directly in production.
- Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and consistency, maintaining a high level of attention to detail in all deliverables.
- Follow written directions and established drafting standards, templates, and workflows to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to clarify requirements and resolve drafting issues.
- Use Excel, Word, and Outlook to manage documentation, track information, and coordinate project communication.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the drafting and design team and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in processes and standards.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for mechanical and manufacturing-focused drafting.
- Experience with Revit or another 3D design program; SolidWorks may be considered if Revit experience is not available.
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and technical documentation accurately.
- Strong 3D visualization skills and an understanding of how systems and layers work together in building assemblies.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook for documentation and communication.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing accurate and consistent drafting work.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to follow written directions and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Comfort working in a manufacturing-oriented drafting environment rather than traditional architectural design.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Architecture or architectural drafting experience is welcome, provided you are interested in a manufacturing-focused role rather than pursuing traditional licensure as an architect.
- Proficiency in Revit is preferred, especially for creating detailed 3D models and CNC router files.
- Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D modeling tools can be an asset when Revit experience is limited.
- Interest in career growth within drafting and design, with opportunities to progress through roles such as Drafter, Drafting Team Lead, Designer, and Team Lead Designer.
- Ability to work closely with manufacturing teams and adapt designs based on real-world production feedback.
Work EnvironmentYou work on-site in the office five days per week, in direct proximity to the manufacturing facility. The environment supports collaboration between drafting, design, and manufacturing teams, and offers a structured career path with roles ranging from Drafter through Team Lead Designer. The setting is professional and production-focused, with daily use of AutoCAD, Revit or other 3D programs, and standard office tools such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
