Job summary

We are looking for someone with a passion for nutrition and health to join our large, friendly team of dietitians and assistants across London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. This newly developed Band 4 Assistant Practitioner role is based at Central Middlesex Hospital and will work closely with the peri-operative dietitian, the wider Peri-Operative (POA) Service and the St Mark's Hospital Dietetic Team.

The successful candidate will support the delivery of the POA nutrition pathway for patients undergoing surgery, contributing to the assessment, monitoring and implementation of nutritional care plans within an agreed framework and under the supervision of a registered dietitian. The role will include supporting both outpatient and inpatient activity as part of an expanding POA service, focused on improving patient outcomes through nutritional optimisation before surgery.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the delivery of the peri-operative nutrition service for patients undergoing surgery within the Pre-Operative Assessment (POA) pathway.
  • Undertake delegated nutritional screening, monitoring and follow-up under the supervision of a registered dietitian.
  • Implement and monitor nutritional care plans and provide dietary advice within agreed protocols.
  • Support the identification and management of patients at nutritional risk to optimise outcomes before surgery.
  • Maintain an agreed caseload and accurately document all patient care within the electronic patient record.
  • Work closely with dietitians and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive appropriate nutritional support.
  • Escalate clinical concerns appropriately and contribute to audit, service improvement and ongoing service development activities.
  • Participate in training, competency development and continuing professional development.

The post will work closely with the peri-operative dietitian, wider peri-operative service and team, as well as the St Marks Dietitians to support the expansion of peri-operative nutritional optimisation services at London North West University Healthcare Trust.
