Job Summary
The Bowen School of Construction | Purdue Polytechnic (BSC) at Purdue University in Indianapolis invites applications for a full-time appointment at either the Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice level in the area of Interior Architecture. The Professor of Practice position is contractual non-tenure accruing, but renewable, with the position holder having voting faculty status and potential for promotion through established policies. This position will be at the Indianapolis, Indiana campus beginning in August 2027.
Teaching Expectations BSC resides in Purdue Polytechnic at Purdue University (PPI), one of the 10 academic colleges. Polytechnic uses innovative learning methods, real-world experiences, and industry partnerships to produce graduates uniquely qualified for technology-driven careers. This position requires faculty to have both high technical competence and the ability and desire to teach in active classrooms. We are looking for a candidate to teach students in our Interior Architecture degree program. The primary assignment focuses on instruction and industry engagement, with a secondary role that interfaces with external clients to establish relationships with companies that will engage our students at some level.
In addition to teaching, the candidate will be expected to aid in curriculum development for the Interior Architecture program. The candidate may also participate and integrate their professional experience with architecture and interior design associations, industry activities, service and engagement, and participate in scholarly activities of engagement and learning.
The School The Bowen School of Construction (BSC) is celebrating over 60 years of construction education excellence and Purdue University was recently ranked #7 among public institutions in the U.S. by the Wall Street Journal. BSC has campuses in both West Lafayette and Indianapolis Indiana. The school has a vibrant research and teaching culture with over 500 undergraduate students and over 100 graduate students. Undergraduate programs include degrees in construction management, design and construction integration, virtual design and construction, and interior architecture. The school resides in the Purdue Polytechnic Institute that recently transformed undergraduate curriculums to incorporate innovative learning environments, strong industry involvement, and team teaching in active learning classrooms.
Education & Experience Applicants must have a minimum of an M.S. in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related discipline. Applicants must also have documented, full-time, industry experience which must include a minimum of 4 years in the U.S. architecture or interior design industries. Preferred candidates will be ARE or NCIDQ certified as well as retain previous teaching experience.
- The successful applicant will have expertise in some (but not necessarily all) of the following core course areas: software applications for the built environment which include AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup and associated design visualization programs, residential construction, commercial construction, interior materials, three-dimensional design, building systems, and sustainable design.
