Household Support Worker

Household Support & Advice

Salary: £34,452 - £40,501

Hours: 36 per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen for several posts across all localities within the City of Edinburgh Council’s Household Support and Advice service. A fast-paced service with a broad and varied remit, Household Support is responsible for the City of Edinburgh Council’s statutory response to tackling and preventing residential Anti-Social Behaviour. Household Support is also a Care Inspectorate registered visiting support service, delivering Housing Support to adults and families with a focus on preventing homelessness and poverty, utilising a ‘No Wrong Door’ approach. All staff are required to be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council and operate within the SSSC Codes of Practice and adhere to the Care Inspectorate Health and Social Care Standards.

At its heart, Household Support and Advice is a preventative and early intervention service which seeks to improve the lives of residents and address the root causes of poverty and antisocial behaviour by offering a range of holistic assistance. You will provide support to households, including mediation and regulated visiting support, as well as enforcement action around antisocial behaviour.

Being part of a frontline service, you will often be the first point of contact a citizen has with Household Support and Advice provision. You will work closely with individuals and partner agencies such as the Police, Housing and Homelessness colleagues; Legal Services; Social Work; and Health and Social Care professionals, to promote people’s wellbeing and facilitate a restorative approach to neighbour disputes and antisocial behaviour complaints.

You will work systemically with people to understand and promote positive change through short term, person centred and outcomes focussed support. You will draw on the principles of Getting It Right for Everyone in undertaking assessments and develop SMART action plans to support people to achieve positive outcomes, maintain tenancies, tackle inequality, isolation and poverty.

As such, this post is suitable for candidates who have an interest and experience in promoting resilience in communities by supporting vulnerable people whose issues range from experiencing or causing antisocial behaviour, to being at risk of homelessness, and/or experiencing financial hardship.

While the role is one of investigating antisocial behaviour complaints within the community and providing visiting client support within peoples’ homes, there is a requirement to be based within the locality office. This is not a hybrid role.

You are also expected to have an SVQ level 3 in Social Services and Healthcare (SCQF 7) or be willing to work towards gaining this qualification to fully meet SSSC registration requirements. On job training will be provided. Continuous professional development is a requirement of your registration with the Scottish Social Services Council, so a commitment to your on-going learning and development is expected.

If you wish to know more about the role please contact Debbie Corner [email protected] or Nicky Maybury [email protected]

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce where everyone feels valued and able to be their best. We particularly encourage applications from women for senior roles, as well as people from minority ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities or neurodivergent people, care experienced people, carers and LGBT+ people across all levels of the organisation, all of whom are currently underrepresented. All applicants will be considered fairly based on skills and experience. Disabled and care-experienced applicants who meet the minimum job criteria will be guaranteed an interview.
