About the role

As a production operative, you operate machinery in your area and help keep performance in line with business requirements, quality standards, and food safety standards. You work safely, follow set procedures, and use your judgement to keep production running well. You also help your team solve problems, learn new skills, and improve the way we work.

Please note that opportunities for this role may exist to work across a variety of areas, including Agricultural/Receiving, Production, and Packing, where team sizes and responsibilities may vary to meet business needs.

About the team

You will work as part of a team of approximately 10 to 24 colleagues, depending on the operational area and shift requirements. The team is supported by three Team Leaders and a Shift Manager, who provide day-to-day guidance and operational direction. Opportunities may exist to work across a variety of areas, including Agricultural/Receiving, Production, and Packing, where team sizes and responsibilities may vary to meet business needs.

What you’ll be doing.

• Operate machinery effectively and efficiently so that area performance is optimised and meets business requirements, quality standards, and food safety standards.
• Work to our health and safety and food safety policies at all times, taking responsibility for your own safety and the safety of others.
• Promote and enforce behaviours and actions that prevent all contamination threats to our products, whether physical, microbial, or chemical.
• Work from set procedures and make minor decisions using your own judgement.
• Support the immediate solving of work problems, and take part in the work of the wider production team where necessary.
• Work towards, and support the achievement of, plant-wide 'multi-skilled' status.
• Help train new operatives in your area and cover other roles when appropriate, once you have received the training.
• Contribute actively to a continuous improvement culture.
• Carry out any reasonable additional duties as and when requested.

What you’ll need to be successful.

Essential

• Ability to work from set procedures, making minor decisions using your own judgement.
• Able to remain focused in a busy and demanding environment.
• Good communication skills.
• Basic numeracy and literacy.
• Strong computer competence.
• Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work on your own initiative or as part of a team.
• Drive and a focus on quality.
• Ability to undertake further development training.

Desirable

• Previous experience in a production or packing operative role.
• Experience of operator asset care and maintenance.
• Previous experience of SAP and SAP shop floor processes.
• Understanding and interpreting key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Understanding of AIB and good manufacturing practice (GMP) standards and audits.
• Knowledge of continuous improvement principles and practices, including 5S and SQDCPE.
