About this role
UK Director of Accounting & Statutory Reporting
NSTR is working with a US-listed, healthcare-focused REIT that has built a fast-growing UK property platform through acquisition. They are now hiring their first senior UK finance leader to take ownership of accounting, statutory reporting, compliance and treasury.
Reporting to the Group Principal Accounting Officer and managing the UK Division Controller, you will own the multi-entity statutory accounts cycle (including US GAAP to FRS 102 conversion), lead the auditor relationship, run the UK compliance calendar and design the quarterly distribution process. This is a genuine build mandate, with real influence over process, providers and team growth.
We are looking for an ACA qualified accountant with strong FRS 102 and Companies Act expertise, ideally with real estate or REIT exposure, and experience of a US-listed group’s UK subsidiary, whether in industry or audit. A daily overlap with US Pacific hours is required.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Statutory reporting & audit
- Own the UK statutory accounts cycle across a multi-entity group, including the ongoing US GAAP FRS 102
conversion layer.
- Act as the primary relationship holder for the UK statutory auditor — briefing on system changes, agreeing testing
approach in advance, and keeping evidence requests structured rather than reactive.
- Manage the annual audit-exemption strategy across the group's UK entities, including guarantee-based exemptions
and the parent-company consolidation exemption mechanics.
Compliance & tax coordination
- Take ownership of the UK compliance calendar: VAT/Making Tax Digital, CIS, withholding tax on intercompany
financing, corporation tax instalments, REIT condition testing, and confirmation statements.
- Partner with the group's tax function and external tax advisors on REIT compliance, transfer pricing, and the
corporate interest restriction regime.
Treasury & distribution
- Design and then operate the group's quarterly UK distribution cycle — clearing intercompany balances, evidencing
distributable reserves, and sequencing dividends up through the UK holding structure to satisfy REIT distribution
requirements.
- Build and own the rolling UK cash forecast that underpins distribution timing and going-concern evidence for the
annual audit.
Provider management
- Reset and manage relationships with the group's outsourced company secretarial provider, statutory accounts
preparer, and valuation advisor, converting inherited engagement scopes into clearly defined, monitored service
levels.
- Own records custody and access continuity as outsourced engagements wind down or transition.
M&A integration
- Build and run the new-entity onboarding process for the group's active UK acquisition pipeline — compliance intake
(tax registrations, auditor appointment, PSC registers) and post-completion financial review (completion accounts
true-up, warranty and indemnity tracking). • Maintain the rolling claims calendar across closed acquisitions and escalate any pre-completion issues within
contractual notification windows.
- Provide the accounting support required as acquired legacy entities are wound down and dissolved post-acquisition,
including final-period reporting and coordination with liquidation advisors.
Leadership
- Line-manage the UK Division Controller, currently the group's only UK-based finance resource, and build out the
function underneath you as the platform scales.
- Communicate complex UK technical positions clearly to a US-based executive and technical accounting team who
are new to UK regulation.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- ACA qualified (or equivalent), ideally with real estate or REIT sector experience.
- Genuine depth in UK GAAP (FRS 102) and Companies Act statutory reporting, including the ability to hold the
technical conversation with an external auditor unsupervised.
- Prior experience with a US-listed group's UK subsidiary — whether in industry or through auditing one at a Big 4 or
mid-tier firm — giving you working familiarity with US GAAP concepts and SOX-style control expectations, even
without deep US GAAP technical expertise.
- Comfortable owning provider relationships and building process from a blank page, rather than operating an
established function.
- Strong written and verbal communicator, able to translate UK-specific technical detail for a non-UK audience.
- Willingness to maintain a fixed daily overlap window with US Pacific-hours colleagues, and to travel to the US if required.
