Role Summary/Purpose:
We are looking for Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer focusing on valve technology to join our global FACTS (NPI) team. The position will be based in Tampere, Finland.
GE Vernova Grid Solutions Oy delivers mainly high power (>100MVAr) Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS), Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOM), Static Var Compensators (SVC), Fixed Series Capacitors (FSC) and Synchronous Condensers (SC). These are used to control power system voltage and reactive power flow as well as to improve the power system stability and transmission system efficiency. FACTS devices are also typically used to enable the integration of renewables to the power system making the future power system more sustainable. Energy transformation towards generation of electricity from renewables have significantly increased the markets for FACTS devices and R&D needs for the power system stability products.
The Product Delivery Group (PDG) for power electronics-based products STATCOM and SVC is in Tampere, Finland, while the PDG for FSC and SC is in Saratoga Springs, United States.
In this position, you will focus on technology around STATCOM Voltage Sourced Converter (VSC) and you will be functionally reporting to NPI program leaders in Finland.

Key tasks:
Your main task is to act as senior semiconductor valve technology engineer and ensure high quality of products in close co-operation with research and development team, system design team, tendering team and with other stakeholders also. You are mainly working with STATCOM Voltage Sourced Converted (VSC) valve technology. You are expected to have capability to work as technical leader. On top, it is expected that you have capability to specify, challenge, validate and approve the proposed solutions.
In this very versatile role, you have possibility to become recognized expert in the field of power electronics semiconductor valve technology. Your areas of expertise will include:
Technology road mappingTechnical approval of designsTechnical guidance for product development, tendering and system design teamsTechnical presentations to internal and external customersDefine design validation and testing strategiesSpecify and plan high voltages and Valve Submodule testsExecute and lead high voltage testsDefine and validate product protection strategiesParticipate product cost out programs and support those activitiesFollow international standards within your expertise areaFollow patent landscape in co-operation with IP teamParticipate technical discussions with key component suppliersSupport sourcing team with alternative components/suppliersProvide technical guidance for after sales teamSupport integration of other systems, for example energy storage solutions In this role, you will be focusing on the existing product development as well as future products and technologies.
