QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- Current valid state license as a Registered Nurse (preferred). LPNs with strong work experience will be considered..
- Ability to work well with students, parents, and staff.
- Physical demands – must be able to stand and walk the majority of the day; lift and carry twenty (20) to thirty (30) pounds frequently, and up to one hundred (100) pounds occasionally; push or pull same amounts frequently. Job may also require frequent bending and stooping.
JOB DUTIES
- Flexibility and Availability to cover at any Berrien County School when the nurse is out.
- Assess sick/injured staff and students.
- Enter health clinic forms into Powerschool and file.
- Work with parents/guardians on medication consent forms and signatures.
- Fax consents to doctor's offices and billing offices.
- Enter student medication dosages into EMR and chart medication dosages given to students in EMR.
- Contact parents/guardians for inhalers and asthma action plans for those students with asthma.
- Contact parents/guardians of those students with seizures and keep SAP up to date as well as emergency seizure medication at school.
- Contact parents/guardians of those students with allergies and keep a UTD allergy action plan and medication on file.
- Contact parents/guardians of those students with Diabetes and keep UTD info on plan.
- Help to train teachers/staff about asthma, seizures, allergies, diabetes or any other health diagnosis the teachers/staff would need to know about.
- Assist nurses when the dental van is at school.
- Send home tele-med packets with students. After receiving packets back, check that they are correctly filled out, document in the computer and file.
- Administer tele-med appointments at school.
- Order supplies for the nurse's clinic.
- Assist with EpiPen/Albuterol protocol paperwork and ordering and receiving those medications for the clinic.
- Make sure all medication and supplies are not expired in the clinics.
- Assist with CPR training of faculty and staff.
- When covering clinics, fill out workers' comp paperwork as needed.
- Attend and provide medical knowledge in parent/teacher meetings when needed.
- Help file all medical paperwork.
- Assist nurse with billing.
- Assist nurse with identifying which students with certain health diagnoses ride the bus and provide info for the bus drivers as well as teaching when needed.
- Scoliosis screening for the middle school.
- Help BHS with immunization compliance and DPH audits
- Assist with STOP the BLEED training for staff.
