Requirements
- 10+ years of experience
- Extensive hands-on automation and scripting experience across multiple languages
- Advanced Infrastructure as Code experience across Azure and OCI, including Terraform and Bicep
- Proven experience designing and delivering CI/CD and automation solutions
- Experience building and operating AI- or LLM-assisted tooling or agents
- Strong understanding of security, identity (Microsoft Entra/IAM), and secrets management
- Understanding of resilience, disaster recovery, and recovery objectives, including RTO/RPO and failover
- Track record of mentoring engineers and leading technical work
- Nice to have: experience applying FinOps to optimise cloud costs through automation
- Nice to have: familiarity with ISO 27001, SOC 2, or GDPR control expectations
- Nice to have: experience contributing to engineering standards or reusable patterns
- Nice to have: curiosity about how AI can improve productivity, decision-making, and customer outcomes, with openness to learning and adapting
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver complex automation, Infrastructure as Code, and domain-specific AI agents
- Set technical direction for industrialising provisioning and improving recovery times across our online products and services
- Identify where automation and Infrastructure as Code can deliver the greatest resilience and efficiency gains
- Mentor engineers and lead by example on security and quality
- Drive adoption of an AI-first, automation-first approach through influence, knowledge-sharing, and training
- Help shape how we use automation, Infrastructure as Code, and AI across Azure and Oracle Cloud environments
- Deliver cloud engineering improvements that reduce manual effort, improve resilience, and speed up recovery

This senior technical leadership role is part of our shared-service AI and Automation team, which provides AI capabilities, automation, and tooling to Cloud Operations and associated teams across Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The position is based in Berkshire, with three days in the office and two days working from home.
