Requirements
- Were seeking someone with at least 5 years experience in a Database Administrator, Database Engineer, Database Reliability Engineer, or similar role.
- Were looking for strong SQL Server expertise, ideally across versions 2012 onwards.
- We require advanced T-SQL skills, with a strong focus on performance tuning and optimisation.
- Were looking for experience supporting Azure SQL and Azure Managed Instance environments.
- We require a strong understanding of database monitoring, availability, backup, and recovery strategies.
- Were looking for experience working in ITIL- or ITSM-driven environments.
- We value a passion for emerging technologies and continuous improvement.
- Microsoft database certifications are desirable.
- PowerShell or other scripting and automation experience is desirable.
- Experience with Redgate SQL Monitor or similar monitoring platforms is desirable.
- Exposure to other database technologies is desirable.
- Knowledge of cloud storage and cloud-native database services is desirable.
Responsibilities
- We rely on this role to act as the technical expert for SQL Server environments across our business.
- We need this role to monitor database performance and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.
- We expect this role to optimise T-SQL code, database design, indexing strategies, and query performance.
- We need support for our Azure SQL and Azure Managed Instance environments.
- We expect this role to develop automation that simplifies administration, patching, upgrades, and maintenance.
- We rely on this role to manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes to support business continuity.
- We need this role to investigate and resolve database-related incidents and performance issues.
- We expect this role to implement and maintain database security best practices.
- We need this role to produce and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and support procedures.
- We expect close collaboration with developers and wider technology teams to support deployments and continuous improvement initiatives.

Were recruiting an experienced Database Reliability Engineer to join our growing technology function. In this role, youll help ensure the performance, availability, security, and resilience of our business-critical database environments. Its suited to a SQL Server specialist who wants to combine traditional DBA responsibilities with modern reliability engineering principles. Youll work closely with our infrastructure, application, and development teams to optimise performance, automate processes, strengthen resilience, and support a highly available technology estate.
