Dietetic & Speech Therapy Service
Bank Band 6 Specialist Gastroenterology Dietitian
The successful candidate will provide high quality, evidence based dietetic service to the gastroenterology and medical wards and gastroenterology dietetic outpatient clinics. You will also provide a small dietetic service to the Mental Health Unit wards where you will be a valued member of the multidisciplinary team. The post-holder will also manage a caseload of patients requiring parenteral nutrition and be an integral member of the nutrition team.
The post-holder will run several outpatient group education sessions for irritable bowel disease and coeliac disease. In addition, the post-holder will be involved in providing regular training to staff and patients on nutrition-related issues. The post-holder will also manage a caseload of patients receiving parenteral nutrition.
The Dietetic and Speech Therapy team is committed to continuing professional development, providing monthly coaching conversations and professional development sessions. We encourage staff as part of their annual appraisal to have active involvement in audit and service improvement projects. There will also be an opportunity to provide second line cover to other specialist dietitians in areas such as neurorehabilitation, diabetes, and critical care.

- 1. To be responsible for the provision of a dietetic service to gastroenterology, haematology, medical and mental health wards, providing nutritional advice and counselling.
- 2. To be responsible for the provision of a dietetic gastroenterology outpatient service, including regular outpatient clinics and patient education groups for irritable bowel syndrome and coeliac disease.

Essential
- Degree or equivalent or post graduate qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics
- Evidence of current HCPC registration (Registered Dietitian)
- Minimum of 2 years post graduate dietetic experience including a variety of outpatient and inpatient work.
- Experience of working with a gastroenterology caseload including irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatic and liver disease.
- Experience of working with patients who require medical nutrition therapy, including enteral and parenteral nutrition
- Experience of working as part of a MDT in the acute and/or community setting
- Experience of conducting (patient & staff) teaching groups within a MDT setting.
- Experience of working in multicultural environments and with different ethnic groups.
- Working knowledge of a range of clinical conditions and current best practice for dietetic management; including dietetic management of oral nutrition support, enteral and parenteral nutrition and therapeutic diets for a wide range of gastroenterology conditions.
- Knowledge of medications commonly used in gastroenterology and their common side effects.
- Competence in assessment for enteral tube feeding including extensive knowledge of enteral tube feeding products and equipment; including discharge planning for enterally fed patients.
Desirable
- Member of the British Dietetic Association or covered by professional indemnity insurance.

- Experience of training student dietitians

- Experience of working as part of a gastroenterology dietetic team
