About this role

Location: Target Discovery Institute, NDM Research Building, Old Road Campus, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7FZ

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Epitranscriptomics to join Dr Chunxiao Song’s research group at the Target Discovery Institute. The group develops cutting-edge technologies to map DNA and RNA modifications and translate discoveries in epigenetics and epitranscriptomics into diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities. You will lead projects investigating the role of pseudouridine and pseudouridine synthases (PUS) in cancer.

You will be responsible for managing and developing research projects, adapting and developing experimental techniques and protocols, testing hypotheses, and analysing scientific data. The role includes contributing ideas for new research and funding opportunities, preparing scientific reports and journal articles, presenting research findings, providing advice on experimental techniques, and collaborating with colleagues and partner institutions.

It is essential that you hold, or are close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry or a related scientific discipline, with strong molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology skills. Candidates should have experience with CRISPR-Cas9 knockout cell lines, bioinformatic analysis of DNA and RNA modifications, including small RNAs, and extensive knowledge of epigenetics, epitranscriptomics and RNA pseudouridine. Experience in recombinant protein expression and purification, independent research, publications, and training or supervising laboratory members is also required. Experience working with human samples, NGS techniques for DNA and RNA modification sequencing, and first-author publications in a relevant field would be advantageous.

Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.
