About this role
The CAD Design Engineer takes old 2D engineering drawings and turns them into accurate 3D CAD models that can be used for manufacturing. This role helps aerospace, defense, and shipbuilding companies rebuild or reproduce parts that do not have existing digital models.
Key Responsibilities
- Convert 2D drawings into detailed 3D CAD models.
- Review engineering drawings to ensure dimensions and features are accurate.
- Resolve missing or unclear information by working with engineering teams.
- Verify that models meet manufacturing and quality requirements.
- Support reverse engineering efforts using old drawings or 3D scans.
- Help improve CAD processes and documentation.
Required Skills
- Experience creating 3D models from 2D drawings.
- Strong CAD skills using software such as Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or CATIA.
- Ability to read complex engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Knowledge of manufacturing and production processes.
- Experience working with quality and engineering teams.
- Must be eligible to work on projects subject to ITAR regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) experience.
- Reverse engineering experience.
- Aerospace, defense, naval, shipbuilding, or submarine industry experience.
- Experience with CATIA, Teamcenter, and PLM systems.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
Work Environment
This is a detail-oriented engineering role that works closely with manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams. Most of the work is performed using CAD software to create production-ready models used to manufacture critical aerospace, defense, and shipbuilding components.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Torrance, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60.00 - $75.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
