A little more about your role…

We are seeking a Design Safety Compliance Advisor to join our growing team, supporting the safe and successful delivery of major power, electricity transmission and distribution, low-carbon, renewable energy, and wider energy infrastructure projects across the UK.

As part of a multidisciplinary project environment, you will provide specialist advice on Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015), Safety in Design (SiD), and regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with designers, project managers, clients, and stakeholders, you will help identify, assess, and eliminate or reduce foreseeable health, safety, and operational risks through effective design risk management.

The role will involve facilitating design risk reviews and workshops, undertaking CDM compliance assessments, supporting hazard identification and mitigation, reviewing design information, and ensuring that safety considerations are embedded throughout planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning phases.

You will play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards, and client requirements, while supporting the delivery of practical, innovative, and sustainable engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide CDM 2015 and Safety in Design guidance to project teams.
  • Facilitate design risk assessments, hazard workshops, and risk reviews.
  • Support designers in eliminating, reducing, and controlling risks at source.
  • Review and maintain hazard records and design risk registers.
  • Undertake CDM compliance audits, gap analyses, and assurance activities.
  • Assist in the development of Pre-Construction Information (PCI) and Health & Safety File requirements.
  • Engage with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to support effective risk management.
  • Promote best practice and continuous improvement in design safety and compliance.
  • Support major infrastructure projects across transmission, distribution, HVDC, substations, renewables, and low-carbon energy sectors.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate...

  • Experience in Design Safety, CDM advisory, or health and safety compliance roles.
  • Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 and UK health and safety legislation.
  • Experience working on energy, utilities, infrastructure, engineering, or construction projects.
  • Ability to facilitate workshops and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Membership of, or working towards membership of, a relevant professional body (e.g., IOSH, APS, IIRSM).

Desirable Skills / Qualifications

  • APS Registered CDM Advisor or equivalent.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or Diploma.
  • Experience within electricity transmission and distribution, renewables, HVDC, substations, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of Safety in Design and whole-life risk management principles.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to nationally significant infrastructure projects while helping shape safer, more sustainable outcomes for clients, communities, and future generations.

Don’t quite meet all the criteria? Apply, and we can see how your experience aligns to this role and other opportunities within the team.
