Interim Accounts & Tax Manager / Senior Accountant – 6 Months
Accountancy Practice | Near Gatwick | £80,000 FTE | Immediate / Short-Notice Start
We are working with an established, independent accountancy practice near Gatwick looking to appoint an experienced Interim Accounts & Tax Manager / Senior Accountant for an initial six-month assignment, supporting the firm through a period of increased workload.
This is a small, friendly three-partner firm with a broad portfolio of owner-managed businesses and private clients. They are looking for someone who can quickly become a trusted member of the team, take responsibility for their own work and operate confidently with minimal supervision.
The Role
This is a varied, hands-on position covering general practice work, with responsibilities likely to include:
- Managing a portfolio of SME and owner-managed business clients
- Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders
- Reviewing management accounts and other client reporting
- Preparing corporation tax computations and returns
- Undertaking personal tax work and assisting with self-assessment returns
- Supporting clients with general accounting and tax queries
- Reviewing work prepared by more junior members of the team
- Liaising directly with clients and building strong working relationships
- Working closely with the partners on more complex client matters
- Managing deadlines effectively across the client portfolio
About You
We are keen to speak with candidates who have recent UK accountancy practice experience and are comfortable operating at Manager, Client Manager, Senior Accountant or experienced Senior Manager level.
You should have
- Strong experience within a UK accountancy practice
- Good all-round knowledge of accounts preparation and review
- Practical corporation tax and personal tax experience
- Experience managing your own portfolio of clients
- Confidence dealing directly with business owners and senior client contacts
- The ability to review work and support less experienced staff
- A pragmatic, hands-on approach and the ability to get up to speed quickly
ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification would be advantageous, although strong practical practice experience is more important than qualification status.
This opportunity would suit an experienced practice professional looking for an interim assignment where they can make an immediate contribution, without layers of management or unnecessary bureaucracy.
You will be joining a close-knit firm where you will work directly with the partners, have genuine ownership of client work and enjoy the variety that comes with working in a smaller independent practice.
