About this role

To work in partnership with the senior leadership and the Pastoral team team to play a lead role in improving the quality of student pastoral support. To deliver a high quality learning experience by improving the academic performance, personal development and well-being of all students in the Academy.

To be a strategic and supportive member of the extended Leadership Team, playing a key role in maintaining a purposeful and highly effective learning environment.

Specific Areas of Responsibility (in addition to your responsibilities)

Support and sustain an ethos that reflects the academy vision of delivering an excellent provision for our students, families, community and staff. To bring equality of education to every student to maximise outcomes for all.Act as the academy strategic lead on student achievement and experience, reporting as appropriateTo continuously develop the quality of student support through work with the academy’s leadership team and pastoral teams, monitoring and evaluating current provision and its responsiveness to the raising achievement agenda and ensuring statutory responsibilities are met.Value all children and be committed to the development of the whole childRelate well to students, staff and parents and care about their individual needsProviding opportunities to celebrate diversity in line with the EDI agendaTo demonstrate a passion and commitment to and for high quality learning experiences at all levels and inspire in others a drive for the highest standards of behaviour and personal developmentTo work alongside key staff to develop and implement strategy to raise attainment for all students, including most able pupil premium and our white British cohort.Work collaboratively with parents, students and other stakeholders to create an effective dialogue around attainment, achievement and wellbeing.To support, through line management of key staff (Heads of Year) in delivering co-ordinated and coherent processes that result in a high quality curriculum entitlement for all pupilsTo work as part of the academy leadership team to evaluate the effectiveness of support systems and inform their development and improvement planningTo effectively implement and monitor appropriate quality control systems.To monitor the work of line managed departments and ensure evaluative reports are produced and improvement plans developed and monitored appropriately against KPI’sContribute to the Academy’s drive to secure good outcomes in learning and teaching resulting in high quality outcomes for learnersImplement the use of data to ensure excellence in learning and to support quality outcomes for learnersTo quality assure provision and monitor standards of progress, taking responsibility for all outcomes, including behaviour and attendance, challenging underperformance and underachievementTo research pertinent aspects of your learning to drive informed improvement.To disseminate best practice throughout and beyond the Academy.To manage and lead provision ensuring the effective use of all resources, including staff, equipment and financesSpecific to Role

Lead and line manage the team of Heads of YearBe a visible leader who oversees the management of student behaviour and uniform throughout specific year groups ensuring that school expectations and standards are being consistently applied, particularly at social times and lesson transitionsContribute effectively to the organisation of all internal and external alternative provisionSupport the Safeguarding Team ensuring all issues are raised following the correct protocol and that there is an appropriate response for the year groups if there are issues that need addressing.Oversee the reward systemSupporting the impact of student voice and the school councilHave the responsibility for aspects of SMSC and the ethics and values of the school and for promoting British values across the school.Contribute to the organisation of a highly effective assembly programmeEstablish and model for all staff positive relationships with the students based on high expectations, trust and respectSet the highest expectations of standards of achievement and behaviour through personal example and clear leadership.Ensure that monitoring, evaluation and celebration are explicit in the management of each year groupRepresent the views of the Heads of Year and year groups within the school, both through formal consultative procedures and informally where appropriateKeep abreast of current local and national educational developments and research and ensure effective dissemination amongst appropriate colleagues.To advise the senior leadership team on pastoral developments and on their potential impact on the schoolTo participate in arrangements made in accordance with the regulations for the appraisal of staff.To lead improvements to student progress, behaviour, attendance and rewardsDevelop excellent relationships with students through support and challenge.Ensure excellent progress leader time and quality-assure staff and sessions ensuring that students attendance and punctuality is challengedEnsure progress leader teams engage effectively with parents and carers in meeting academy expectationsBe accountable for strategies to close gaps for specific groups of studentsSupport the ESA offer by improving student attendance.Support students in their Aspire programme and post 16 pathways.Celebrate the work of students with parents, within the year group and in the community.
