Boys JV-B Baseball Coach @ Sparta High School

Position Overview

Sparta High School is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and student-centered coach to lead the Boys JV-B Baseball program. The JV-B team serves as a freshman-level developmental team, providing student-athletes with the opportunity to learn the game, improve their baseball skills, develop confidence, and prepare for future success at the higher levels of the program.

The JV-B program is designed to build a strong foundation in baseball fundamentals, teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Team Structure and Eligibility

• The JV-B Baseball roster will consist strictly of freshmen and sophomores.
• The team will operate at the freshman level, with an emphasis on skill development, learning the expectations of high school baseball, and preparing players for future advancement within the program.
• The coach will work to create a positive, competitive, and supportive environment that encourages participation, growth, and accountability.

Scheduling and Season Expectations

The goal is to develop a competitive schedule of approximately 25–28 games for the season, providing student-athletes with meaningful opportunities to gain game experience and apply the skills developed during practices.

The coach will assist with scheduling, coordinate with the appropriate athletic department personnel, and help ensure the team has a well-organized and productive season.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and lead organized practices focused on baseball fundamentals, position-specific skills, hitting, pitching, fielding, base running, and game awareness.
• Teach the rules, strategies, and expectations of high school baseball.
• Develop players' individual skills while promoting teamwork, confidence, accountability, and sportsmanship.
• Establish clear expectations for attendance, effort, behavior, academic responsibility, and commitment to the team.
• Prepare the team for practices and games through effective instruction, preparation, and communication.
• Manage game-day responsibilities, including lineups, substitutions, player development, and in-game instruction.
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, school administration, and the athletic department.
• Collaborate with the varsity and other baseball coaching staff to promote consistency throughout the Sparta baseball program.
• Maintain a safe, positive, respectful, and development-focused team environment.
• Follow all school, district, and applicable athletic association policies and procedures.

• Knowledge of baseball fundamentals, strategies, and player development.
• Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• A commitment to working with freshman- and sophomore-level student-athletes.
• The ability to teach, motivate, and develop players with varying levels of experience.
• A positive coaching philosophy that emphasizes effort, improvement, accountability, and sportsmanship.
• Ability to meet district coaching requirements and complete all required certifications and clearances.
