PRIMARY PURPOSE
Assist in conducting learning experiences for students in assigned areas; perform a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for instructional personnel; and to perform related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/ Certification
- An Associate of Arts Degree or 60 College hours or High School Diploma/GED and Successful Completion of the ParaPro Praxis Assessment with qualifying score.(Documentation must be provided.)
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Knowledge of:
- General Concepts of child growth and development and child behavior characteristics.
- General Purposes and goals of public education.
Ability to:
- Assume responsibility for supervising students.
- Learn and utilize basic methods and procedures to be followed in instructional settings.
- Perform routine clerical work and basic arithmetical calculation.
- Demonstrate an understanding, patient, warm and receptive attitude toward children.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instruction.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents and the general public.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Tutor or assist a group of children designed by the teacher.
- Review and summarize learning of specific skills.
- Repeat a lesson when necessary.
- Dispense and clean up materials.
- Assist the teacher in special class demonstrations.
- Assist in monitoring student's seatwork.
- Oversees and supervises students during classroom activities in library and on field trips.
- Maintains discipline in the absence of the teacher.
