Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic band 4 equivalent Clinical Trials Assistant to join our expanding and high-performing primary care research team at Abbeywell Surgery. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a friendly, supportive team delivering both NIHR portfolio and commercial clinical research that directly improves patient care and advances medical knowledge.

Abbeywell Surgery is a recognised research hub, working with local GP practices as part of an established hub-and-spoke model. You will play a key role supporting the delivery of a diverse range of clinical trials, gaining valuable experience across both clinical and administrative aspects of research. This role offers excellent opportunities for development, exposure to cutting-edge treatments, and involvement in studies spanning multiple disease areas.

This position is ideal for someone who is organised, proactive, and passionate about research, and who wants to contribute to meaningful work that makes a real difference to patients and the future of healthcare.

Working hours: 24 hours a week. After induction days will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There is scope to increase the working hours by joining the nursing/HCA team if wished, can be discussed at interview.

Main duties of the job

Providing clinical and administrative support to the research team, this will include:

performing clinical tests and investigationsPhlebotomy/Blood pressure/Height/Weight/ECGundertaking laboratory work in processing/centrifuging and shipping samplescollecting and managing research dataperform archiving of research studiesMaintaining and updating study documentation and research filesPost holders may also support and be responsible for relevant studies across our 4 research sites.

The team includes a Principal Investigator, Senior Research Sister, an Operations and Finance Lead, and supported by a nominated research GP Partner, working together to deliver a diverse portfolio of NIHR and commercial clinical studies.

Abbeywell Surgery operates as the central hub within a hub-and-spoke model, supporting research activity across our linked GP practices in North Baddesley and Testvale. All participant visits take place at Abbeywell Surgery, providing a professional and well-supported environment.

The research team is fully integrated within a wider friendly and supportive GP practice team who actively promote research. Person Specification

Experience Essential

Experience working as a Clinical Trials Assistant (or similar) within a healthcare research setting Experience supporting and coordinating participant visits and study procedures within clinical trials Experience completing case report forms (CRFs/eCRFs) within a live study environment Experience maintaining investigator site files or study documentation to audit-ready standards

Desirable

Experience working in primary care research or GP settings Experience supporting or coordinating multiple clinical trials simultaneously Experience independently managing aspects of clinical trials (e.g. set-up, follow-up or close-out activities) Experience working on commercial clinical trials Experience preparing for or supporting audits/inspections (e.g. MHRA) Experience using electronic research systems (e.g. iMedidata, Veeva or similar)

Travel Essential

Ability to travel independently between sites as required

Qualifications Essential

GCSE (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science Up-to-date GCP training Competency in phlebotomy, ECGs, blood pressure and clinical observations Strong IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office and ability to learn clinical systems) Evidence of continued professional development Ability to communicate clearly and professionally (written and verbal) Ability to travel independently between sites (access to a vehicle)

Desirable

NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Health and Social Care IATA / biological sample handling training Additional clinical research training or certifications
