On call may be a requirement of the post and a contribution to the on call rota should be expected.
Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust (HDFT) are looking to appoint a Consultant in Orthogeriatrics to join our established team.
The Orthogeriatric Service at Harrogate District Hospital providesconsultant-ledcare for older people with frailty admitted with trauma or requiring orthopaedic surgery. The service is an integral part of the Trauma and Orthopaedic pathway and focuses onperi-operativeoptimisation, comprehensive geriatricassessmentand safe,timelydischarge.
The service is delivered by two ConsultantOrthogeriatricians, supported by Trauma Coordinators and resident doctors, working closely with Trauma & Orthopaedics, Anaesthetics, nursing teams,therapistsand community services. The Orthogeriatric team contributes to multidisciplinary working, teaching,auditand service development in support of improved outcomes for older patients.
Main duties of the job
Clinical care of older people with frailty ontheorthopaedicward.
Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
Teaching and training of junior staff and medical students.
To activelyparticipatein both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).

Qualifications Essential
CCT date or within 6 months of CCT Success in intercollegiate Speciality Examination or equivalent
Experience Essential
Significant experience of working with frail older adults in acute hospital settings Significant experience in the assessment and management of older people with complex comorbidities
Knowledge Essential
In-depth knowledge of comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) and its application to frail older adults with acute orthopaedic trauma, including hip fracture care
Desirable
Completed Fellowship Programme
