Job summary

The Mechanical Supervisor is a key operational role within Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, supporting the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of mechanical systems across the estate. Reporting to the Mechanical Manager, the postholder will manage and allocate work for the mechanical maintenance team; overseeing performance, conducting appraisals, and ensuring appropriate staff development and progression, ensuring that all planned and reactive works are carried out in line with statutory requirements, NHS HTM standards, and Trust policies.

This role requires a solid technical background in mechanical engineering, with responsibility for supporting the management of high-risk systems, promoting Safe Systems of Work, and assisting in maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. The Mechanical Supervisor will contribute to the delivery and performance of Planned Preventative Maintenance systems -- supporting the scheduling, monitoring, and reporting of maintenance activities.

Main duties of the job

Lead the strategic development and implementation of compliance strategies for hard FM services across multiple Trust departments, ensuring ongoing alignment with organisational objectives and regulatory changes.

Ensure statutory and regulatory requirements are integrated into daily operational activities and maintenance tasks.

Deliver challenging audit outcomes to teams, requiring advanced persuasive and motivational skills to overcome opposition and ensure implementation of corrective measures.

Maintain accurate compliance records and monitoring systems to support audit readiness and reporting.

Lead the development and implementation of Trust-wide Safe Systems of Work, formulating and adjusting risk management strategies that impact multiple departments and service areas.

Person Specification

Education Essential

Level 3 NVQ Diploma or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline

Desirable

APMPS Mechanical AP Training or desire to become Authorised Person
