About this role

Job summary

We have 2 full time posts for band 5 RMNs for a fixed 12 month period to cover Maternity leave and Employment Breaks.

Jenny Lind is an 8 bedded acute inpatient ward for older adults with Mental Illness that require in-patient care, treatment and assessment. The people admitted to the ward often have complex physical health co morbidities., all applicants should have an interest in both mental and physical health care delivery.

The ward has a multi-disciplinary team approach to delivering holistic care. This includes Nurses, Health Care assistants, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Activity support workers , Consultant Psychiatrist & Junior doctors, Psychologists and colleagues in Adult Social Care .

Jenny Lind Ward welcomes and supports student nurses and nursing associates as part of our team and you are expected to supervise and assess students on placement.

Jenny Lind Ward operates a rotational shift pattern system that covers 24 hours / seven-day period. The shift starts at 0730hrs till 2000hrs and the night shift at 1930hrs till 0800hrs. This post is advertised as a Full time post but a part time post may be negotiable depending on the applicant.

This is a fixed term post to provide cover for absence for specific purpose that we anticipate will be required for 12 months. We reserve the right to end this contract sooner with appropriate notice.

Main duties of the job

Your day will commence with clinical handover from the outgoing shift; you will then plan the day ahead with your team. This will include, allocation of patient care and therapeutic activities, ensuring all activities of daily living are supported in a person centred way, focussing on independence and wellbeing, reviewing care plans and risk assessments, monitoring physical health, medication administration, liaising with the medical and therapy team, discharge planning , MDT meetings and ensuring the Mental Health Act is correctly implemented and adhered to. You will also supervise health care support workers, junior colleagues, and Students on placement.

Person Specification

Additional Criteria Essential

Ability to work flexibly to cover a 24 hour/365-day service.

Skills and Abilities Essential

Ability to demonstrate that you can lead and support a team of staff. A good understanding of physical health conditions and its management. Ability to organise and respond efficiently to patients complex needs, assess, plan implement and review care for an allocated group of patients. Ability to build effective working relationships.

Desirable

Breakaway/Safety Interventions/ Mappa training. NEWS 2 experience. Falls prevention and management.

Knowledge Essential

Knowledge and understanding & application of the Mental Health Act. Knowledge of evidence-based interventions for people with functional mental health diagnosis. Knowledge of completing/creating Mental Health Risk Assessments.

Desirable

Knowledge of Mental capacity act and DOLS and the interface with the Mental Health Act.

Qualifications Essential

RN Mental Health, RN (Adult) or RNLD. Registered on the NMC register. Evidence of continuing professional development. I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.

Desirable

Completion of preceptorship. Student mentor & Assessor.

Experience Essential

Where the post holder is on or above the 2nd KSF gateway they will support the Clinical Coordinator role, as described as exceptional circumstances in the job description. Promoting peoples equality, diversity and rights. Ensuring actions contribute to quality.

Experience in managing a range of physical health conditions.
