Job summary
The Specialist Nurse for Children in Care plays a vital role in promoting the health, wellbeing and safeguarding of children and young people who are looked after by the Local Authority. The role focuses on ensuring that Children in Care receive high quality, holistic healthcare that addresses their physical, emotional and developmental needs.
Main duties of the job
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the post holder collaborates closely with social workers, carers, healthcare professionals and other agencies to coordinate and deliver comprehensive health assessments, ongoing health support and supervision. The nurse will act as a an advocate for our children and young people by ensuring their voices are heard and their individual health needs are prioritised.
Key responsibilities include undertaking Review Health Assessments, developing personalised health care plans, monitoring health outcomes, providing expert advice, training and supervision to other members of the 0-19 team.
The Specialist Nurse for Children in Care will work in close partnership with the Named Nurse to ensure that statutory responsibilities and high standards of care for Children in Care are consistently delivered. The Specialist Nurse will provides operational, clinical and professional support to help the Named Nurse fulfil their leadership, safeguarding and governance role within the organisation.
In addition the role will also entail support to the Named Nurse for multiagency audits, Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews, data collection, audit activity, service delivery and monitoring performance against national and local standards.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
NMC Registration. 1st level nurse with a first degree in a health related subject or equivalent or equivalent experience To have attended multi-agency training in Safeguarding Children and related topics. Specialist Community Public Health Practitioner/Registered Nurse.
Desirable
Additional relevant qualification of working with vulnerable children or ability to demonstrate having gained equivalent knowledge Safeguarding Children Supervision Skills training. Experience of working with Children in Care
