About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and energetic Speech and Language Therapist to lead and continue to develop the Speech and Language Therapy service within the Care Homes across North Cumbria. This is an exciting opportunity to develop their clinical and leadership skills within this specialist role.

The post holder will work closely with the Speech and Language Therapy assistant to deliver high quality Speech and Language Therapy provision within the care homes. A large part of the role is to provide training into the care homes around the identification and awareness of dysphagia.

This post will primarily be based at Workington Community Hospital but there will be a requirement to travel around North Cumbria to provide a service into the care homes across the north of the county.

The North Cumbria Speech and Language Therapy team is a small, friendly, supportive team with good opportunities for ongoing training. We have a well developed supervision and peer support system in place.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Degree in Speech and Language Therapy. Registration with HCPC. Ongoing Membership with the RCSLT. Evidence of formal training/ specialist experience to Masters Level equivalently in dysphagia.

Desirable

Evidence of training in management of swallowing and communication in the population with dementia.

Skills and Aptitudes Essential

Ability to carry out and analyse the results of, various assessments. IT skills - including word processing, ability to access software packages. Excellent skills in presentation and training of others Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Excellent time management, organisational and administration skills.

Effective use of telemedicine

Personal Circumstances Essential

Car driver essential Car owner Ability to meet the physical demands of the post.

Knowledge Essential

Experience of Working within the field of elderly care to an advanced level Evidence of Leadership/management skills. Experience of working in the care home environment High level of knowledge of current national ad local drivers, governance and risk associated with the care home population Experience of driving change to improve service delivery

Desirable

Evidence of leadership training Experience of service delivery Awareness of the EnCOP framework
