About this role

Job summary

This is a senior-level post which is suitable for a candidate who has a minimum of 2 years of general surgery experience, including a minimum of 1 year in the NHS UK. Renal transplant and vascular access experience will be an added benefit, but is not mandatory to apply for this post.

The successful candidate will join a team of 5 other doctors working in a middle-grade rota. This includes some at CT and some at ST3+ level and an FY1 in the Department of Renal Transplantation. The main job will be based at St Georges University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Tooting, London. There will be some elective activities at St Helier Hospital Carshalton, London.

The aim of this post is to offer experience in vascular access and transplant surgery. We are doing higher number of access procedures at St Georges and St Helier sites. This includes simple and complex vascular access procedure.

Main duties of the job

The main job will be attending transplant and vascular access clinics, MDTs and theatre sessions at St Georges and St Helier. Depending on experience there will be opportunity to do independent clinics and simple access procedures under consultant supervision.

The applicant will also participate in the pre-operative and post-operative management of patients undergoing renal transplantation and renal surgery. The individual can additionally expect to be trained in transplantation, surgery related to renal failure and the clinical management of transplant recipients.

The individual will attend renal surgical lists at St George's Hospital and St Helier hospital. There are total of 6 theatre lists per week and the post holder will attend these as per rota sharing with other colleagues.

The individual will also share in the clinical work and on-call cover undertaken by the junior surgical staff of the unit.

When assigned to clinical duties, the individual is encouraged to undertake the responsibilities of the team leader befitting a surgical trainee by leading twice daily ward rounds and partaking in a rota that assigns the individual as team leader or ward cover registrar.

Qualifications & Experience Essential

oFull registration with GMC oA minimum of 2 years of experience in general surgical/urology/vascular surgery post at CT level oA minimum of 1 year surgical experience in NHS in the UK oMRCS

oExperience in renal and transplant surgery oSurgical experience at ST 3+ Level or above oFRCS oMedical education related experience or degree oResearch related experience or degree
