We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Consultant Psychiatrist to join our dynamic Adult Community Mental Health Team within the Southend Community Mental Health . This is an exciting opportunity to work within a supportive, multidisciplinary service delivering high-quality, person-centred care to adults with complex mental health needs.
Main duties of the job
The post provides specialist psychiatric input to adults with severe mental illness across Southend, including patients managed within CMHT Primary Care Networks (PCNs). The role works closely with Consultant Psychiatrists, PCN clinicians, GPs, and partner agencies.The post holder will provide specialist psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, formulation and ongoing management using a biopsychosocial and recovery-focused approach. Clinical duties include medication management, risk assessment, Mental Health Act work (including emergency reviews), MDT participation, service liaison, and advisory support to CMHT and primary care mental health practitioners. The caseload is shared with a trainee doctor.

You must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register, with an appropriate CCT or equivalent or be within six months of obtaining your CCT on the date of the AAC.

Job description Job responsibilities
Provide consultant input and Responsible clinician duties for community mental health patients under the CMHT
Ensure excellence in the provision of mental health assessments and evidence based treatments to all referred patients to the service in line with Trust policies.
Establish a reliable and accessible work schedule with the team and be readily available during work hours.
Work collaboratively with colleagues in community and inpatient settings concerning the timely care and transfer of patients as necessary.
Ensure appropriate administration and documentation in relation to duties of the post, including recording clinical activities in the Trust electronic patient record system.
Liaise with primary care services as appropriate about patients physical health, mental health and social care needs.
Help co-ordinate further support and/or management between different services as service users needs may dictate.

TRANSPORT Essential
Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.
Qualifications Essential
MB BS or equivalent medical qualification. Registration with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register OR within six months. Meets Royal College of Psychiatrists criteria for appointment to the post of Consultant. Section 12 Approval and Approved Clinician Status. Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry via CCT or CESR.
Desirable
Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management. MRCPsych Postgraduate degree in psychiatry MRC Psych or equivalent.
ELIGIBILITY Essential
Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months. Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment.
Desirable
In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE Essential
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty. -Substantial post-qualification experience in General Adult Psychiatry. Experience of working in community mental health services with MDT-based care. Experience acting as Responsible Clinician including use of CTOs. Participation in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activity.
Desirable
Experience of PCN-aligned or locality-based service models. Experience of service development or redesign within community services.
