Job summary We are a department of 43 Dietitians, Nurses, Dietetic Assistants and Administratorsproviding an integrated dietetic service to the West Suffolk Hospital and the wider community. The West Suffolk Dietetic service is a forward thinking, innovative department that is currently involved in several large-scale service development projects that aim to improve patient care and showcase the value of dietetics. We fully support and encourage professional development opportunities within our service.
Main duties of the job The post holder will be required to see patients in a variety of settings including Hospital and Community across the West Suffolk area to support patient with artificial nutrition. They will work as part of the Nutrition Nursing team consisting of B7 lead Nutrition Nurse and B6 Nutrition Support Nurse. The team works alongside a B7 Lead Home Enteral Feed Dietitian and Dietetic Support Workers to support patients requiring home enteral feeding. The successful candidate must be proactive and be able to problem solve. Experience of working in Home Enteral Feeding is advantageous, but training is available and the successful candidate will be fully supported by the Nutrition Nursing team. Person Specification
Education and qualifications Essential
RGN Part 1 or 12 PR Educated to degree level or equivalent health professional qualification. Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Desirable
NNNG membership Teaching course/qualification within a clinical setting.
Experience and knowledge Essential
Experience of nutritional support and enteral tube feeding. Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team. Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of other disciplines within the team.
Desirable
Experience of audit and research. Experience and ability to place NGT/balloon gastrostomies. Understanding of legal and ethical issues associated with nutrition support.
Skills and abilities Essential
Computer competent to write documents. Knowledge of nutritional support and enteral tube feeding methods and practice. Able to work autonomously and manage own workload. Able to problem solve and demonstrate creativity. Able to work as part of a team. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Able to communicate wide ranging, complex and sensitive information to clients, carers and professional colleagues. Good presentation skills. Ability to negotiate. Aware of limitations within role.
