Job summary

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin welcomes applicants fromTrainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners. The service is heading into a new chapter, come and join us in 2026 and make a difference to children and young people in the area!

This is a developmental role combining clinical practice with academic study. You will be supported to work progressively towards autonomous practice, including developing skills in clinical decision-making, risk management, and, where appropriate, non-medical prescribing.

You will start in a Band 7 Trainee role and will be supported to complete a relevant master level qualification and upon successful completion progress to a Band 8a.

In the role you will provide clinical expertise at an advanced level in both physical and mental health for children and young people. You will provide expert assessment and treatment for children and young people with complex and urgent mental health needs in the community. In addition, you will provide clinical leadership alongside specialist clinical leads, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Operational and Quality leads across CRHTT and CORE mental health services.

Main duties of the job

Provide expert assessment, formulation, and treatment for children and young people with complex and urgent mental health needs. Offer specialist advice, support, and education to families, carers, and the wider professional network. Apply advanced clinical knowledge, including physical health, and provide supervision to staff. Lead and support quality improvement, service development, and the implementation of best practice. Identify and manage risk in line with Trust governance processes. Contribute to service objectives as part of the senior leadership team. Lead the development of physical health pathways and support staff training in this area. Drive improvements in patient safety, quality of care, and clinical outcomes. Support workforce development through supervision, training, appraisal, and recruitment. Promote a positive learning culture and contribute to staff and student development. Work collaboratively with children, families, and partner agencies to ensure person-centred care. Contribute to audit, research, and innovation to enhance service delivery.

The Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) will work within CAMHS to develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to practice at an advanced level. Under appropriate supervision, you will support the assessment, formulation, and treatment of children and young people presenting with complex and urgent mental health needs in the community.

The trainee will contribute to the delivery of safe, effective, and person-centred care while developing capabilities across the four pillars of advanced practice: clinical practice, leadership and management, education, and research. They will support service development and quality improvement initiatives, contributing to improved patient outcomes and experience.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

oProfessional regulated core qualification with the NMC/ HCPC oPost graduate qualification oMaster level qualification relevant or willingness to undertake training.

Desirable

oQualifications in Project Management and/or Quality improvement oIndependent prescriber (V300)

Experience Essential

oExtensive experience in a senior management/clinical/practitioner leadership role within mental health oHigh level of clinical expertise in working with Children mental health. oExtensive experience of working with Children in a variety of mental health settings

oExperience of service development and transformation

Skills Essential

oKnowledge of current national agenda relating to the NHS, social care sector, and Children care within mental health oKnowledge of evidenced based interventions when working with children for a variety of presentations. oKnowledge and good understanding of current trends and legislation impacting on services provided to children experiencing mental health presentations
