Job Title: Consultant Paediatric Radiologist

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Permanent

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a motivated, skilled and caring professional to join a friendly and cohesive team of dedicated paediatric radiologists at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Southampton Children's Hospital is part of University Hospital Southampton and is a major centre for specialist paediatric services in the South of England. We provide acute specialist care to our local population in Southampton and the wider region, including the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands. We are a major paediatric trauma centre and part of the Oxford and Southampton Children's Hospital Network (cardiac, critical care, neuroscience, orthopaedics, rehabilitation and transitional care). Supporting the development of medical careers is one of our trust's key aims, and the hospital is a major teaching centre and is the base for the Wessex Radiology Training Scheme. Paediatric radiology is an essential component of the Southampton Children's Hospital, and we have exciting plans to grow the service to continue to provide an excellent tertiary service and advise our local DGHs.

Please see the Consultant Brochure which provides further information.

About us

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated 'Good' by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

Job description Job responsibilities

The successful candidates will have subspecialist training in paediatric radiology and be able to participate fully with the varied work of the department including the dedicated on-call rota. This would consist of providing a comprehensive diagnostic paediatric radiology service which includes general plain radiography, CT, ultrasound, and MRI. Experience in leading imaging in multidisciplinary meetings is essential.

A standard full-time Job Plan will contain 10 Programmed Activities, which includes 8 Pas for direct clinical care and 2 supporting PAs. Sessions will be a mix of acute/emergency work and outpatient reporting.

The on call is overseen by a single consultant, supported by a senior registrar. Compensation for on call commitments is provided with a single non-working PA per week (1 PA).

The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop a subspecialty interest in collaboration with their colleagues. Paediatric neuroradiology is not essential, but we will endeavour to accommodate a strong interest in this subspecialty. Similarly, an interest in dedicated paediatric interventional radiology will be supported.

Applicants would be expected to participate in training and quality improvement activity if appointed.

This includes a detailed breakdown of the key responsibilities, role expectations, and the qualifications we are looking for.
