Job summary

The Nutrition & Dietetic Dept is delighted to offer the opportunity for an enthusiastic, and highly motivated individual to join our Team. The post holder will work to provide general and advanced (clinical & non-clinical) support to the community dietetic service for domiciliary and outpatients as part of the UHP NHS Trust community dietetic service working under the supervision of senior dietitians.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

To provide general and advanced (clinical & non-clinical) support to the Community Home Enteral Feeding (HEF) Dietetic Service for domiciliary UHP NHS Trust community dietetic service working under the supervision of senior dietitians.

To enhance the work carried out by community HEF dietitians, improving service efficiency, streamlining the provision of nutrition care and facilitating effective patient care.

Includes visiting patients in their own homes, residential and nursing homes, discharged from hospital and referred from other areas and maintain accurate records under the supervision of qualified staff.

To undertake other tasks, within the dietetic department, that do not require the expertise of a registered dietitian, as assigned by supervising dietitian

To be involved in all Nutrition and Dietetic departmental activities and contribute to the delivery of a Trust wide dietetic service. May have opportunity to rotate to other Band 4 Advanced Dietetic Assistant roles within the department

Person Specification

Knowledge & Experience Essential

Demonstrable experience of working in an acute clinical setting Proven ability to undertake relevant departmental training to achieve required clinical competencies Demonstrable experience of working with a wide variety of people Proven ability to hold face-to-face and/or telephone conversations with patients, carers, and colleagues. Demonstrable experience of making practical decisions using theoretical proven knowledge. Demonstrable experience of being responsible for some decision making.

Desirable

Demonstrable experience of working as a Dietetic Assistant Demonstrable experience of working with people requiring specific dietary needs Demonstrable experience of healthcare computer systems

Qualifications Essential

Foundation degree or equivalent or higher. OR NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in healthcare related subject (proven evidence of working towards, or able to demonstrate the skills, proven knowledge and ability to work at this level) Good standard of general education with GCSE A-C/level 4 or above English and Mathematics as a minimum

Desirable

IT skills training Attendance of additional professional courses.

Aptitude & Abilities Essential

Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Able to present information, written and oral, in a clear and logical manner for patient notes and departmental documentation Excellent organisational skills, ability to manage own time, prioritise and plan timed activities Awareness and ability to maintain patient confidentiality
