Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Wessex Cancer Alliance (WCA) for a Project Officer to join the Service Improvement Team, supporting review of cancer pathways across Wessex.

Wessex Cancer Alliance's (WCA) purpose is to lead and inspire innovation and improvement in cancer care for all people in Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

We bring together & work collaboratively with clinical and managerial leaders from different hospital trusts and other health and social care organisations within the Wessex geography.

The Service Improvement Team's role is to support the transformation of the patient's pathway from referral to diagnosis and treatment for patients referred via an urgent suspected cancer pathway. We aim to improve experience and outcomes for patients whilst focused on delivering the national cancer waiting times performance standards.

The project officer role will assist with organising and facilitating internal and external meetings, minute taking, creating actions plans and driving actions forward through to delivery, analysing complex data (such as patients pathways and demand and capacity) and produce and present recommendations following their analysis of the data, creating reports, completing project documentation and highlight reports, support with stakeholder engagement and management and providing general project support to the project and programme managers within the Service Improvement Team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities Your Responsibilities The successful applicant will need to: Be highly organised and efficient, supporting with organising, facilitating and minute-taking during project meetings. Analyse complex data and produce and present recommendations. Support service improvement and re-design. Create, track and expedite action plans from project start to delivery. Encourage change with external stakeholders such as clinical & operational colleagues. Professionally support project implementation and delivery. Report reporting, including progress updates and completing project documentation. Use improvement methodologies and data to understand and improve processes. Be interested in learning improvement skills through formal and informal training.

What were looking for The individual will require excellent inter-personal skills to engage with all levels of clinical and managerial staff.Experience in either project management or service improvement would be an advantage. This is a development role, and the post holder would expect to expand their knowledge of these skills while in post.This role will provide exposure and opportunity to engage with other Trusts to share learning.

You will be required to attend meetings across Dorset, Hampshire & the Isle of Wight to fully engage with teams, understand the pathways, and support the development of plans to implement improvements.

Person Specification

Qualifications, knowledge and experience Essential

First Degree or equivalent experience/diplomas Knowledge and application of a recognised service improvement technique or relevant experience Evidence of further training/study/courses Evidence of leading and implementing change, influencing behaviour, collaborative working with others Experience at a junior level in industry or healthcare sector A self-starter, able to work with minimal direction, and take the lead in situations Project management experience Facilitation of meetings / groups Evidence of leadership qualities Literate, with report writing skills and experience Evidence of structured project management skills and experience Demonstrate the ability to analyse and interpret information and present this to a variety of audiences. Ability to analyse problems and develop practical and workable solutions to address them Ability to work with project teams to effect change in rapidly changing environments, to achieve agreed goals

Desirable

QSIR practitioner Project or change management training Working knowledge of more than one improvement methodology Previous experience in healthcare setting Previous experience of quality / service improvement Working knowledge of more than one improvement methodology Evidence of some project management support experience Experience at junior management level
