Healthcare Assistant

Band 3

15 hrs

We require a talented and committed HCA to fill the Band 3 role at Worcestershire Acute Hospital Trust providing high quality support to patients living with HIV. The candidate will also be required to work across two sites.

The appointed candidate will support the HIV CNS and the Consultant in effectively managing a highly complex clinical caseload. This involves prioritizing needs to ensure that an efficient service is provided. You will help support the team looking after patients undergoing assessment and treatment of HIV.

You will work as a member of the multi-professional team supporting consultants and nurse-led clinics.

This role also includes providing admin duties and data input.

The days of work for this position are flexible depending on what the service needs however the candidate needs to be able to work on Monday due to the main clinic they will be supporting runs on a Monday at the Alexandra hospital.

Main duties of the job

To accompany patients where clinical support is indicated.

To chaperone patients as required.

Taking and recording and monitoring of patient observations to include, blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturations, temperature and respirations. This includes accurate calculation and recording of NEWS 2 (early warning score) and escalation to registered staff as indicated by score.

Blood Glucose Monitoring.

Undertake asymptomatic sexual health screening as directed by the CNS.

To work within the phlebotomy service when required.

Undertake a range of clerical duties service, this may involve:

o Reception / telephone duties.

o Basic computer skills

o Stock Control.

o Preparing notes - using both electronic and manual systems.

o Assist in the preparation of medical and nursing notes for clinics.

To support professionally qualified staff in providing quality care for patients in roles, which are mainly related to direct patient care.

To cover reception duties and book appointments as appropriate.

To assist in the transferring of patients using correct manual handling techniques and equipment as appropriate.

To attend to the activities of daily living needs of patients e.g. mobility, if required.

To report immediately to the Nurse in Charge any observed change in a patients condition or any concern expressed by a patient about nursing care or medical treatment.

To answer telephone calls, bleep etc. and take messages informing appropriate persons of the call or bleep received.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Previous experience in a caring environment. Experience of working within outpatients. Previous administration experience. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications Essential

NVQ Level 3 in Direct Care, or equivalent. Key Skills literacy/numeracy or equivalent. Venepuncture competencies.

Desirable

Venepuncture Certificate. Care certificate. NVQ Assessor Qualification.

Other Job Requirements Essential

Ability to undertake manual handling and movement tasks. Able to travel countywide / cross-sites. Flexible working capacity.
