Band 6 Theatre Team Leader - Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery 36 hours per week | Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Operating Theatres for a motivated and experienced Band 6 Theatre Team Leader to join our Trauma & Orthopaedic Theatre team

This role offers the opportunity to work within a busy, highly skilled and supportive multidisciplinary team, providing clinical leadership while delivering safe, high-quality perioperative care for patients undergoing Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery.

The successful candidate will be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) or the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and will have substantial recent theatre experience. You would bring current, relevant scrub experience in Trauma & Orthopaedics, with a strong working knowledge of surgical techniques, instrumentation and specialist equipment.

We are looking for a confident, organised and approachable practitioner who can lead by example, promote best practice and contribute positively to service delivery and team culture

Main duties of the job

Some of the duties include:

Provide effective clinical and operational leadership to staff during each shift.Support the Specialty Manager, Theatre Manager and Matron for Theatres, Anaesthetics, CriticalCare and Pain in the development and delivery of services, with specific responsibility for Traumaand Orthopaedic Theatres.Coordinate perioperative activity with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective theatre flowand continuity of patient care, including out-of-hours provision.Act as a professional role model, promoting AfPP values, a positive safety culture and effectivecommunication.Promote human factors awareness, situational awareness and professional challenge within theperioperative environment.

Person Specification

Management Skills Essential

Ability to manage and support staff performance, including supervision and development Ability to ensure appropriate staffing and use of resources to deliver safe patient care Ability to contribute to rota management, service coordination, and day-to-day operational oversight

Communication Essential

Effective written and verbal communication, including in challenging situations Ability to lead by example, support team development, and role-model professional behaviours

Knowledge & Training Essential

Sound knowledge of theatres, patient safety, and perioperative standards Understanding of evidence-based practice, clinical governance, safeguarding, and mental capacity Knowledge of leadership principles, service improvement, or multi-skilled practice

Experience Essential

Perioperative experience with exposure to multiple specialities including Trauma & Orthopaedics Experience leading or coordinating staff and working within an MDT in an acute setting IT literate

Qualifications & Education Essential

Registered Nurse (NMC) or ODP (HCPC) with a recognised UK anaesthetic qualification

Desirable

Teaching, leadership, or management qualification (or equivalent experience)

Planning Skills Essential

Ability to prioritise workload, plan service delivery, and manage competing demands effectively
