Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Salaried GP to join our successful, patient-focused practice in the charming village of Marden, Kent for 4 or 6 sessions per week.This semi-rural setting offers a unique opportunity to deliver high-quality primary care to a diverse community. Main duties of the job

A Salaried GP works as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care while complying with the contract.

Furthermore, the post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

The role is to support, mentor, and supervise other healthcare professionals within the organisation and be an integral part of the general practice team.

About us

Marden Medical Centre is the focal point for the local community and provides services to 7,700 patient under GMS contract, including an on-site dispensary.

We work closely with our PPG and the registered charity Friends of Marden Medical Centre who both make a valuation contribution to the Medical Centre and wider community we serve.

We are part of the Weald Primary Care Network and more widely West Kent Primary Care, where one of our GP Partners is currently vice-chair. Our team have a particular focus on delivering learning and development for the PCN.

We are proud to be an accredited GP Training Practice. We provide a training and accreditation environment for GP Registrars and multi-disciplinary training for nursing students, paramedics and clinical pharmacists.

Job description Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP in delivering health services.

a. The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population

b. The provision of services commensurate with the primary care contract

c. To clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective and plan clinical care accordingly referring patients to other services/agencies in a timely manner, utilising Practice and any other local guidelines

d. Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance

e. Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care

f. Effective management of long-term conditions

g. To support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care

h. Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks

i. Review medications following the appropriate policies, NICE/local clinical guidelines and local care pathways

j. Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance

k. Work collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload

l. Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process

m. Support the delivery of anticipatory care plans

n. Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice

o. Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) or the QOF

p. Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required

q. Contribute effective to the development and maintenance of the practice including clinical governance and training

r. Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children

s. Ensure compliance with the appraisal process

t. Prepare and complete the revalidation process to remain fit to practice

u. Commit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team

v. Review and always adhere to practice protocols and policies

w. Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, always promoting a culture of continuous improvement

x. To be an integral part of the general practice team as well as supporting the wider network and multi-disciplinary team

y. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Clinical Excellence: Strong diagnostic and decision-making skills, with a patient-centred approach to care. Ability to manage complex cases and provide continuity of care in a close-knit community. Communication: Outstanding interpersonal skills to engage with Mardens diverse patients, from young families to retirees, including clear communication in face-to-face and virtual consultations. Collaboration: Ability to work effectively within a team, contributing to clinical team work decisions, quality improvement, and supporting junior/non-GP clinicians. Strong team player with a collaborative mind-set. Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to evolving NHS priorities and practice demands.

Desirable

Ability to manage a varied workload while maintaining personal well-being and fostering a positive, supportive practice culture. Innovation: Enthusiasm for embracing digital tools and contributing to our Primary Care Network (PCN) initiatives. Approachability: Warm, empathetic, and professional demeanour to build trust with patients and colleagues.

Qualifications Essential

Medical Qualifications: Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and inclusion on the GP Register. MRCGP qualification or equivalent. Experience: Experience as a GP in a UK general practice, demonstrating proficiency in managing a wide range of primary care conditions, including chronic diseases, acute presentations, and preventive care. Clinical Skills: Competence in addressing the healthcare needs of Mardens semi-rural population, including elderly care, paediatrics and mental health. Ability to coordinate with local community services (e.g., district nurses, pharmacies, acute trusts).

Desirable

Special Interests: Additional expertise in areas such as dermatology, womens health, joint injections, or minor surgery to enhance our service offerings and meet local demand. Training Involvement: Experience or enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring, as our practice supports medical students and GP trainees.
