We are currently looking for people with excellent assessment and communication skills who perform well under pressure. The role of the Mental Health professional in ED is a fast paced and dynamic role. The team provide 24/7 input into the Emergency Department delivering high calibre assessments, formulations, and care plans for individuals. We provide an invaluable expert opinion into the care of individuals in emergency department.

We are a PLAN accredited service and the core24 team are part of the well-established wider Liaison Psychiatry service at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge.

We are also seeking to expand the core24 service that we provide, giving quicker access to individuals across the hospital out of hours.

Main duties of the job

As part of the Liaison Psychiatry Service, the post-holder will contribute to the multi-disciplinary clinical assessment and management of patients referred to the service in collaboration with other team members. Providing and undertaking timely biopsychosocial assessments and risk management plans in accordance with CPFT's Clinical Risk Assessment and Management policy for adults presenting to the Acute Trust with mental health problems. This role is a permanent, full-time vacancy for an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist / Mental Health Professional wanting to join the established liaison psychiatry emergency department team. The liaison psychiatry service is highly regarded nationally and is accredited through the Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network (PLAN). The service consists of highly skilled psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses and occupational therapists. The service aims to offer exceptional standards of care to all patients attending Cambridge University Hospital experiencing a comorbid mental health issue. As such, an opportunity has arisen to recruit a dynamic CNS / MHP on a permanent contract who will work 10-hour shifts across a 24/7 rota.

To autonomously conduct biopsychosocial and risk assessments for individuals presenting to the Acute Trust with mental health problems with MDT support available. Provide a high level of clinical expertise in the assertive management and assessment and care of patients presenting with mental health problems. Ensure that care is based on the assessment of care needs and includes a thorough risk assessment and risk management plan. Ensure good communication with other members of the Liaison Psychiatry Service as well as general hospital staff about changes in care plans. To liaise with other agencies caring for patients, including community mental health teams and GPs to provide clear plans for all patients, particularly frequent attending or high-risk patients. Utilise recent research findings in the advancement of best practice and in the delivery of an evidenced based service. Engage in Liaison Psychiatry Service educational and training events to fulfil requirements of clinical governance. To organise and provide training in psychiatry, including mental health awareness to colleagues in the Acute Trust. To provide support and expert advice to colleagues involved in the care of patients with mental health problems and to develop systems to ensure that this support is available in a range of ways. Ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 and other statutory regulations are observed and implemented within a medical setting.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications Essential

Registered Mental Health Nurse or equivalent professional registration Evidence of relevant post registration training and development.

Desirable

Independent and supplementary Prescriber

Experience Essential

Significant post registration experience in working with people with mental health needs. Community and in-patient experience in mental health services. Considerable experience in the assessment and management of clinical risk. Experience in the planning and delivery of training and practice developments to staff. Evidence of experience in service evaluation and improvements.

Experience of working in Liaison Psychiatry

Skills/Abilities Essential

Ability to prioritise workload effectively, meeting expected deadlines. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. High level of self awareness, recognising own strength and limitations. Ability to manage change and deal with conflict / stressful situations. Ability to produce and present clear reports. Ability to work effectively under pressure.

Knowledge/Understanding Essential

Advanced understanding of the mental health needs of adults Specialist knowledge of person-centred care and its application. Up to date knowledge of appropriate assessment scales.

Desirable

Knowledge of practical application and use of psychological therapies

Physical Requirements Essential

Ability to foster good interagency working. Ability to represent the team / service / Trust in a professional manner.

Other Requirements Essential

Willingness to embrace integrated model and new ways of working. Ability to work flexibly. Ability to work autonomously with support from senior colleagues.
