Job summary
We are looking for somebody with experience in caring for children and young people undergoing pelvic and hip surgery and those undergoing limb reconstruction. You should have a genuine passion and interest in paediatric orthopaedic surgery and aspire to become a clinical nurse specialist.
Along side the Band 7 CNS the Associate CNS will manage and provide specialist clinical practice for both outpatient and inpatients (NHS and Private Care). Ensuring that patients and their families are fully informed about their journey through the service and utilising other members of the MDT when required to increase knowledge and skills to ensure delivery of reliable high quality care.
This is a Trust-wide role at both Stanmore and Bolsover Street sites, with a number of multi-disciplinary key contacts and stakeholders that are essential to the role.
Main duties of the job

To understand and adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct and other NMC Standards.
To take personal responsibility for maintaining professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and ensuring the line manager is informed immediately if this registration is compromised.
To take personal responsibility for identifying own training needs for mandatory and statutory training and discussing these with the line manager ensuring that sessions are attended.
To take personal responsibility for ensuring that personal objectives are agreed with line manager and that annual appraisal takes place.
To actively contribute to the teaching and learning of clinical staff, patients and others.
To contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of teams in which you work.
To undertake any other duties at the request of the line manager commensurate with the role, including absence cover.
To ensure practice is evidence based and is in line with local and national policies and procedures.
Undertake any course or development programmes identified as being relevant to the position

Job description Job responsibilities
Ensure that patients receive a high level of quality harm free care at all times and assist the CNS to contribute to the monitoring of this through audit or other KPIs/ or outcome measures. Support the paediatric surgery and limb reconstruction service within the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, ensure effective patient centred care is provided to patients who have or are at risk of complications related to your speciality.
Work towards developing your advanced Nursing knowledge and skills to enhance the holistic management, experience and pathways for patients. Take personal responsibility to ensure your own personal and professional development which may include any competency frameworks in your speciality.
To help and support knowledge, clinical leadership to the nursing and administrative staff within your service and team members. Utilise the use of Clinical Nurse Educators/Facilitators to ensure that you assist and support both your own development and that of staff and students in your speciality.
To support all aspects of your service across the trust with your B7 CNS and other team members.
Provide information and advice to healthcare professionals about your service using your clinical judgement. Act as an information resource on your service issues in line with your role.
Assist with the provision and delivery of education and training (both formal and informal) about your service, to all levels of staff and disciplines.
To highlight or escalate issues around effectiveness and efficiency. To manage any equipment required or specific to your service
To support and assist with research/ analyse audits on your service and with direction work with CNS to draw up action plans and identifying learning needs.
To assist and help with clinical trials and research in collaboration with RNOH CNS and CNS Lead in order to develop your service where appropriate.
Liaise with the CNS to advise and contribute to clinical governance activities within the trust around your speciality.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
First level nurse registration 2-4 years Experience in using MS Excel, EPIC/EPR or equivalent
Desirable
Experience as an infection control nurse Experience as an infection control link practitioner Recognised IPC-related qualifications or equivalent
Communication and Relationship Skills Essential
Excellent written and spoken English Excellent verbal communication skills will all members of the MDT Able to work with minimal supervision Good observational skills and has a flexible attitude to work
IT Skills Essential
IT skills in Word, Excel, Powerpoint and PowerBI Able to maintain efficient flow of information (i.e. uploading to data bases, etc.) Able to extract and manipulate data, setup documents and spreadsheets into graphs
