Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 5 registered staff nurse to join our Community Macular service within our Garston Community Site. The role requires dual site activity, to include St Paul's at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, most likely on a 3:2 split.The successful candidate will have experience within a hospital Ophthalmology unit and experience with Macular patients undergoing intravitreal injections.

We are looking for someone with experience of working in a high volume healthcare environment, experience of working in an Ophthalmic setting would be an advantage.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is keen to take on a new challenge and develop this role. You will be given full training along with competency based assessment for skill development.

The successful applicant will be well supported by the nursing team and encouraged to develop the role to it's full potential.The candidate must be enthusiastic, dynamic, flexible, reliable and ready to take on a demanding role working with a high volume of patients.

Main duties of the job

You will be working alongside an established Macular nursing team and your duties will include supporting patients who are attending the clinic.

you will be performing vision checks, Intra-ocular pressure checks and learning other ophthalmic skills that will allow you to prepare the patients for consultation and injections.

Job description Job responsibilities

Visual assessment, ophthalmic investigations, treatment and triage ofpatients attending the department . Preparation of patients undergoing ophthalmic investigations, including requesting of relevant investigations, surgical procedures. To run and organise clinic and toassist in ophthalmic surgical procedures. Participates in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain agreed standards of nursing care. Maintain nursing records in accordance with the NMC and Trust guidelines. Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to the development of Essence of Care and clinical benchmarking within the unit. Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients.Providing information and support to patients/carers, and ensuring allthose involved in the care are aware of changes in the patients condition.Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs.To undertake expanded practice, under supervision, in order to optimisepatient care and in accordance with ward/department and Trust policies. Involve patients and carers in the planning and delivery of care. Ensure effective lines of communication within the department.Assisting the department manager in identifying required resources toenable nursing staff to provide agreed standards of patient care. Collaborates with other professional groups to ensure safe and effectivecare is made available on the department. Works in line with and promotes government and hospital strategies,ensuring nursing staff meet their responsibilities and are working to theaims and objectives of the organisation.
