Job summary

We are currently recruiting a permanent full time Senior Dental Nurse to work with our Undergraduate students at Royal London Dental Hospital. The successful candidate will provide nursing leadership in our undergraduate department working alongside both trust and QMUL staff providing our dental students. This is an ideal career opportunity for anyone looking to develop their existing skills and be part of our internationally renowned teaching hospital in east London.

Hours of work will be 9.0am to 5.30pm with an hour for lunch. The post will be a split of 80/20 clinical and admin

Barts Health currently has four sites: Whitechapel, Leytonstone, Stratford & Isle of Dogs. This new site will be an addition to these existing sites.

Main duties of the job

o To support the clinical services and Students to deliver a mouthcare programme for in hospital in patients.o Ensure the mouthcare programme runs efficiently and effectively and the students are supported.o To ensure a Quality Assurance program is undertaken within the serviceo Provide training to clinical staff on the use of equipment on siteo Provide assistance to a team of HAS's and hygiene/ theraphy students while they carry out mouthcare for our patientso To provide high quality chairside support to all clinicians and ensure that the standard of all dental nursing care is of the highest order and in line with Trust Policies and Procedureso Support the Lead Dental Nurses, Qualified Dental Nurses and Student Dental Nurses to undertake practical training and induction for band 4 nurses and HCA'so Provide direct line management to band 4 nurses including, sickness management, annual leave, appraisal, performance management and day to day management of their welfare.o Carry out witness training and support trainees with their Record of Experienceo Develop an in-depth knowledge of mouthcare matters within the hospital o Champion service improvement for your clinical areao Responsibility for designated areas of clinical operations and other areas of activity as requiredo Provide support to the dental nurse managers in the recruitment processo Conduct infection control audits for your clinical area and act on findings

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

NEBDN and/or an appropriate professional qualification or equivalent. General Dental Council registration. NEBBN or BDA oral health qualification

Desirable

Post Qualification Certificate.

Experience Essential

Significant experience as a band 4 dental nurse. Ability to work as part of a team with a professional approach towards work and colleagues. Previous experience of working in a hospital setting. Responsibility for clinical activities appropriate to department. Responsibility for maintaining stock levels and ordering where appropriate.

Desirable

Supervision and mentoring of dental nurses and trainee dental nurses and their work within a clinical environment.

Knowledge Essential

Ability to deputise for the Dental Nurse Manager. Knowledge of range of dental nursing procedures acquired through training and experience. Registered as a witness on the NEBDN Diploma in Dental Nursing programme (or be working towards this).
