About this role

Job summary Provide specialist clinical psychological assessment and treatment to adult outpatients who are referred to the service. Expected caseload of 20 outpatient sessions per week. Provide expert and responsive care to inpatients across the hospital, including ward-based consultations and post-discharge follow-ups.

Main duties of the job The 8a Clinical Psychologist will provide clinical expertise and service development for The London Clinic's mental health care service. The role includes responsibility for clinical governance, audit, service pathways, financial oversight, training, and supervision across professional groups. There will also be a focus on developing innovative psychology services, including group psychotherapy and community-based initiatives. This is a senior position requiring a high level of autonomy, leadership, and the ability to influence practice across the organisation.

Job description Job responsibilities Job Title: Clinical Psychologist - Band 8a Salary: £64,000 - £70,000 depending on experience Department: Therapies Hours: 37.5 Contract: Permanent About Us Established in 1932, The London Clinic is one of the UK's largest independent charitable hospitals, located in the heart of London's medical district. Our main hospital spans 8 floors with 234 beds and 10 operating theatres, including a hybrid theatre, supported by a 13-bed intensive care unit. We also have a dedicated Cancer Centre, supporting patients through diagnosis, treatment, and recovery with specialist multidisciplinary care. Our Mental Health Care Team provides psychological support across both inpatient and outpatient services, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver personalised, high quality care. The service supports a diverse patient group, with a strong focus on oncology, alongside a broader mix of medical and non-medical patients. The Role As a Clinical Psychologist, you will take a senior role in delivering specialist psychological care across the hospital, working with both inpatients and outpatients. You will manage a varied outpatient caseload; roughly 70% of referrals are oncology patients and 30% covering a wider mix of medical and non-medical presentations. You will provide expert psychological assessment and intervention, including bedside consultations, supporting patients through complex and often sensitive health journeys. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure psychological care is fully integrated into patient treatment plans. Alongside clinical work, you will contribute to service development, governance, audit, and training, helping to shape and strengthen the psychology offering across the organisation. This is a role that requires confidence, autonomy, and strong organisational skills to manage competing priorities effectively. This is a Monday to Friday service, typically 9am to 5pm. We can offer compressed hours from Tuesday to Friday, working 8.30am to 6.30pm. Hybrid working may be available in the future, to be discussed after probation, with 3 days onsite required. Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

HCPC registered psychologist, preference for BPS chartered psychologist status. Evidence of ongoing CPD and training in at least 2 theoretical modalities - CBT/psychodynamic/DBT/Systemic/ACT/CFT/E

Experience Essential

At least 2 years post-qualification full-time work experience. Experience/competence in working independently, including decision making, managing a caseload, managing risk.
