Job summary

Lambeth Hospital is the current location of all the local Inpatient wards for the borough. As part of our ambitious plans to modernise our buildings and services, Lambeth Hospital will be closing and all our wards and services based here will be moving to new locations.

The hospital's closure is part of a £186 million investment we are making to provide modern, safe, and therapeutic environments for people who use our services and our staff so they can provide the very best care.

The main purpose of the postholder would be to join the NDBH programme delivery team as the Clinical expert representing the Lambeth and Specialist Directorates and to act as the Clinical and Operational Readiness Workstream Lead; to provide leadership and engagement to plan, prepare, train and execute the transition of Clinical and Support services into this new building. To lead on clinical and patient safety issues, ensuring they are reported back to the NDBH Clinical and Operational Design Authority.

Main duties of the job

The individual will lead, develop and delivery the Lambeth Directorate NDBH decant strategy supporting cultural, clinical and organisational change to ways of working.

They will be leading on and responsible for the development and delivery of the operational programme to ensure effective preparation and transfer of services to the new facilities on each site, including workforce preparation and training, familiarisation for staff and service users, strategy for equipment procurement and provision, development and implementation of operational policies and procedures.

They will lead the development and monitoring of transitional plans for services to ensure implementation of the new clinical models and associated service changes and improvements through the redevelopment programmes, to enable maximum benefits realisation.

Work with the relevant teams/departments involved in NDBH development to discuss design solutions, room and furniture layouts for wards in NDBH. To update the management teams in Lambeth and Specialist services regarding these decisions. To work with the trust moves teams to identify appropriate new locations for directorate staff requiring new office locations.

Work with the relevant teams/departments involved in NDBH development to approve fixtures, fittings and equipment samples for new hospital buildings via the Reviewable Design Group.

Job description Job responsibilities

The New Douglas Bennett House on the Maudsley Hospital is a brand new, purpose built accommodation due to house six Lambeth Acute wards and two specialist wards being relocated from other sites.

To lead the Clinical and Operational Readiness Workstream on behalf of the NDBH project and to actively participate in the NDBH Programme Governance (see below).

To provide local advice to support the clinical decision making necessary to ensure the new environments can operate safely and effectively and that effective transitions of all services affected by the relocation, can be achieved.

Regular collaboration and joint working with a range of stakeholders including the Capital Estates and Facilities (CEF), Site Management Team, Project Managers and other NDBH colleagues to fully and safely implement the new Clinical Service Models and ensure that the redevelopment of the facilities on both sites meets clinical and non-clinical needs.

To ensure appropriate clinical decisions are made by attending all associated stakeholder forums and providing expert clinical advice on all relevant matters.

To ensure the development and delivery of associated operational policies to support the implementation of the new Clinical Service Models and operational commissioning of services within the redevelopments of both sites.

Project management will include the requirements for clinical and service user participation in the monitoring of the transitional plans and associated service changes and improvements that impact on the Redevelopment designs and/or programmes.

The post-holder will be responsible for liaison with managers and clinical leads who are involved in the transformation of clinical processes for NDBH Programme.

The post-holder will determine and ensure the execution of effective clinical processes/operational policies and well-functioning multi-disciplinary teams, and to ensure the new developments enable the effective delivery of the Clinical Service Models at all stages of the assessment, treatment and aftercare process.

To work with relevant experts within the Trust and with external contractors to ensure optimal clinical care is achieved from the high quality technology made available.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the co-ordination and management of the involvement of staff at all levels and from all disciplines in the design of the facilities through the creation and management of a number of clinical groups and forums.

To work with the relevant Finance Business Partners on the most cost effective solution for clinical and operational readiness of the NDBH programme.

To work with the NDBH programme group to develop and support safe decant plans for the services moving in to NDBH.

To work with all directorates impacted by ward moves, and Site Management Team, to ensure sitewide issues such as emergency response and other support services (e.g. Clinical Support Services) are addressed in a timely manner and safety is not impacted.

To ensure that any proposed clinical needs that require a change to existing specification are completed in line with the expectations laid out in the Trust policies and governance.

Lead on clinical & patient safety in all forums, ensure any new practices that may be a result of changing location are identified and addressed collaboratively with nursing and operational directorates.
