Job summary

The appointment is for an 8 PA Plastic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Craniofacial surgery. The surgeon, in conjunction with the current team of Plastic and Craniofacial surgeons will be responsible for delivering a Craniofacial surgical service at Great Ormond Street Hospital. A key role for this 3rd Plastic Surgeon within the craniofacial team will be to increase capacity for multi-surgeon operating in line with national recommendations.

The appointee must have extensive experience in paediatric and adult Plastic surgery. The ideal candidate will have previous experience at consultant level and an interest in clinical management and service development.

Main duties of the job

The appointment is for an 8 PA Plastic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Craniofacial

surgery. The surgeon, in conjunction with the current team of Plastics and Craniofacial surgeons will be responsible for delivering a Craniofacial surgical service at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The appointee will be expected:

o To provide a plastic surgical service at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust.

o To provide a craniofacial service commensurate with the experience of the candidate within a multidisciplinary surgical team.

o To undertake clinics and operating sessions for patients currently on waiting lists for paediatric plastic surgery.

o To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training of health care professionals

o To work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary teams involved in providing excellent patient care.

o To work flexibly covering operating lists when other consultants are on leave.

The appointee must have extensive experience in paediatric Plastic surgery. The ideal candidate will have previous experience at consultant level and an interest in clinical management and service development.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training Essential

GMC specialist registration with a Licence to Practice (obtained by designated start date) FRCS (PLAS) or equivalent CCT/CCST in Plastic Surgery (or within 6 months at time of interview) or equivalent training and experience (eligible for CESR) Fellowship training in Craniofacial and Paediatric Plastic Surgery

Desirable

Higher degree - PhD, MD or equivalent Formal teaching qualification Leadership qualification

Experience/Knowledge Essential

Extensive experience in Craniofacial & Plastic Surgery Experience of teaching students and multi-disciplinary team Experience of leading in Clinical Audit processes Published research in peer reviewed journals in relevant area Awareness of the importance of Clinical Governance through experience of participating in quality or safety improvement projects Experience as a consultant grade in a Craniofacial Service Experience of recruiting patients to clinical research trials Experience of working in shared care clinics and clinical networks Experience as Principle Investigator or Clinical Investigator Experience of clinical leadership or management

Skills/Abilities Essential

High level written and oral communication skills Ability to organise and prioritise own workload Ability to work under pressure in a multi-disciplinary environment Presentation skills Understanding and proven ability to apply research findings in a clinical/organisational context Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills Ability to work on own initiative within an ever-changing environment. Leadership skills Proven ability to develop innovative solutions for craniofacial reconstructive challenges Microvascular surgery experience in Craniofacial reconstruction
