An exciting opportunity for a healthcare assistant with knowledge of respiratory illness to join the home ventilation team here in Plymouth.

We need a dynamic, forward-thinking individual to help support the clinical team, doing home visits, assisting in clinics and on in-patient wards. The post is clinical and some administrative and support work. There will be scope for development and time for reflection.

A Full Driving Licence is essential

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

A Senior Health Care Support Worker (SHCSW) is part of the multidisciplinary team delivering direct care to patients and supporting Registered Practitioners to deliver high quality, compassionate health care to people in accordance with assessed needs and a care plan.

You will carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare, or therapeutic tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of the Registered Practitioner, in accordance with the Trust values.

There will be opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills, specific to your needs. Training will be provided to ensure you have the required core skills for a Band 3 HCSW in your area of work. You will also be supported to obtain a Care Certificate if not already achieved.

As the post holder you will provide clinical and administrative support to the home ventilation & oxygen team. You will work in variety of settings: inpatient, outpatient and the community setting. At times therefore you will be a lone worker and will work without direct supervision.

Review/download ventilator uploads to web-based platforms reporting concerns to registered professionals

3. Assess patients for the correct interface and educate patients with regards, fitting, maintenance and hygiene.

4. Set up patients on non-invasive ventilation under the guidance of registered professionals.

5. Support patients when adapting to using ventilators, cough assists, etc. to facilitate optimisation of patients.

6. Provide/assist with direct care of a patient with ventilatory failure and sleep disordered breathing as appropriate.

7. Undertake training sessions for patients, relatives and carers in the use of home ventilation, oxygen, suction, cough assist, etc..

8. Undertake diagnostic testing including capnography, oximetry and spirometry; this will include the downloading of devices. Reporting results to clinicians.

9. Undertake phlebotomy and ECG recording.

Undertake ambulatory oxygen test, reporting results to clinicians.

1 Make changes remotely and in situ to non-complex patients ventilator as directed by the registered staff.

1 To replace and supply ventilation disposables providing patients with supplies as required, this will include ensuring adequate stocks of ventilators and disposables.

To ensure all service users have ventilators and other equipment that are serviced in a timely fashion.

1 To set ventilators and other kit as per instruction from registered professionals and where required deliver these to patients and ensure that they are working appropriately for that patient

1 To implement changes remotely or face to face to management plans in non-complex home ventilation and oxygen patients as directed by the Registered professionals

1To ensure that kit is clean, serviced, charged and ready for use by patients

1On the direction of a registered professionals complete oxygen order via the Oxygen provider portal

1 Assist registered professionals with complex tasks including tracheostomy tube changesParticipate in patient assessment providing high quality holistic patient care and escalating concerns about patients to other clinical staff.
