We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Apprentice Dental Technician within our dental laboratory service, this is a temporary training post for 3 years. You must hold a Level 3 qualification in any subject and have at least five GCSE's (grade 4-9), including English and Maths. Strong manual dexterity, organisational skills and attention to detail are essential. You will be attending The University of Greater Manchester on a day release basis where you will gain an FdSc Foundation degree in dental Technology.

You will work alongside experienced dental technicians to learn how to design, construct, and repair a wide range of dental appliances, including dentures, crowns, bridges, and orthodontic appliances. You will develop specialist technical skills using a variety of materials and equipment, while contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Main duties of the job

This apprenticeship offers the chance to build a rewarding career within the NHS, with full support, supervision, and development opportunities throughout your training. You will play an important role in helping restore patients' oral function, appearance, and confidence, while learning in a supportive and skilled team environment.

You'll construct basic dental appliances from clinical prescriptions, clean and maintain lab equipment, assist in the day to day running of the laboratory all under the supervision of qualified dental technicians. There are three main disciplines in dental technology, prosthetics, crown & bridge and orthodontics. You will gain experience in all of these fields.

The role requires long periods of focused work, often with exposure to fumes, chemicals, and vibrations. Adherence to health and safety protocols, including COSHH, is required.

To develop skills and knowledge in all aspects of dental technology, including interpersonal skills between other members of the dental team, and to work towards gaining the FdSc Foundation Degree Dental Technology thereby being able to apply for professional registration with the GDC.

Job description Job responsibilities

You will mainly be based in our laboratory facility at Royal Stoke University Hospital which provides an excellent and stimulating working environment. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of technicians producing a wide range of appliances and restorations to meet the needs of the department.

As you would expect, you will receive comprehensive in-house training in orthodontic, prosthetic and crown & bridge technology. You will be involved in patient cases from model production and diagnostics through to final restorations/appliances.
