About this role

Job summary

This is an exciting time to join adult mental health services in Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board as we work together to deliver the Welsh Government's new Mental Health Strategy, which places recovery and person-centred care at the heart of service delivery.

As an Occupational Therapist in our Community Mental Health Teams, you will be part of a strong and supportive team working in community roles across adult mental health services. You will have opportunities to develop your own professional self-management skills, delivering occupation-focused interventions using the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) to underpin your practice.

The post offers scope to develop leadership skills through supervising support staff and delegating tasks, while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Use the occupational therapy process autonomously in various settings, including lone working in the community and in service users' homes across Cwm Taf Morgannwg. Deliver assessment and intervention to a defined caseload using validated and evidence-based models of care, assessment tools and outcome measures, such as the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO). Participate in formal meetings, providing specialist knowledge of occupational and mental health perspectives. Work effectively with MDT colleagues to ensure robust therapeutic environs for the service users, which support autonomy, maintain function and productivity throughout their episode of care. Formulate and share risk information in a timely and effectively manner, contributing to risk management and positive risk-taking processes. Recommend and liaise with the MDT to provide appropriate support for the individual, liaising with other agencies to ensure delivery of a seamless service. Develop specialist skills and expertise within the field of community assessment, recovery-focused interventions and related outcome measures. Demonstrate sound judgement regarding achievement of support worker competencies and subsequent delegation of work within a competency-based framework. Contribute to service developments across OT services and mental health services; undertake audits and quality improvement projects.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge Essential

Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy. Registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Postgraduate training/accreditation in fieldwork education.

Desirable

Interest and involvement in quality, audit and service evaluation.

Experience Essential

Postgraduate experience related to post. Experience of service delivery in a variety of different clinical settings. Experience of supervision. Evidence of multidisciplinary and partnership working. Evidence of risk assessment and management principles.

Desirable

Experience in an acute setting and/or the community. Experience of cross-organisational working.

Skills and Attributes Essential

Autonomous practitioner with excellent personal organisational skills for caseload management including time management and prioritisation skills. Demonstrable clinical reasoning skills, and able to make effective clinical decisions following assessment of complex cases. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - demonstrating sensitivity, empathy and a non-judgemental approach within challenging or distressing situations. Ability to engage clients of all ages, their carers and families as well as multidisciplinary and agency colleagues.

Welsh Language Speaking/Listening Skills at Level 3 or above

Ability to travel throughout CTMUHB in a timely manner. Ability to undertake the duties of the role.
