About this role

Job summary

As an Advanced clinical pharmacist for oncology & haematology you will provide an oncology and haematology clinical pharmacy service to our chemotherapy day unit and inpatient haematology ward.

You will be a source of advice for pharmacists and other healthcare professionals for cancer services, will develop other pharmacist skills by supporting rotations in cancer services and will participate in multidisciplinary and governance meetings.

The post holder will deputise for Accountable Pharmacist for the aseptic production unit in their absence and provide professional pharmacist support to the aseptic production unit; this will include clinically screening prescriptions for chemotherapy and authorising final release of products for administration to patients.

Main duties of the job

Key areas of responsibility include:

Adult cancer services - provider person centred care and ensure that drug therapy is safe, effective and cost-effective.

Represent the Trust at Regional Cancer Network meetings.

Liaise with commissioners, including NHS England, to ensure correct funding channels for the use of all medication.

Paediatric Oncology - ensure treatments are safe, effective, peer reviewed, and in the best interests of the patient.

Chemotherapy electronic prescribing - act as lead pharmacist to support the team implementing EPR module for electronic chemotherapy.

Person Specification

Qualifications/training and professional development Essential

Registered member of the General Pharmaceutical Council Degree in Pharmacy and completion of 1 year Foundation training Postgraduate certificate and diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or Pharmacy Practice or equivalent experience Independent Prescriber (IP), or working towards IP qualification or willing to undertake training to become an IP Oncology Pharmacy Course Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) knowledge and understanding of related legislation

Experience Essential

At least 3 years recent hospital experience At least 2 years' experience of working in oncology and haematology General hospital experience which includes clinical pharmacy at ward level General hospital experience which includes clinical pharmacy at ward level

Experience of training and mentoring

Skills, abilities and knowledge Essential

Current pharmacy issues and medicines legislation Clinical pharmacy relating to treatment of malignant disease Knowledge of current issues within oncology pharmacy practice
