About this role

Job summary

This post is for 9 months fixed term part time (30 hours per week) covering maternity leave effective from 14 September 2026 to 30 June 2027, with no option to extend.

The Employee Relations Advisor will provide a professional support service to managers on general operational issues such as terms and conditions of service, sickness absence, performance management, disciplinary investigations, dignity and respect complaints and grievances to Agenda for Change and Medical and Dental Staff across the Trust.

They will join a forward thinking Employee Relations team to support in proactively implementing, and embedding new strategies and initiatives to support managers and staff across the organisation.

Main duties of the job

The Employee Relations Advisor will ensure that advise and guidance to managers on staff-related operational issues, such as; flexible working, family leave, employment breaks, annual leave and sickness absence is of a timely, accurate and professional nature.

They will act as the first point of contact for employee relations (ER) advice to manager across the full range of employee relations relating to both medical and non-medical staff issue, including; grievance, conduct, performance, sickness absence, redeployment etc. in line with best practice.

They will lead on managing sickness absence across the Trust, advising managers appropriately on short and long term absence.

The ER Advisor will hold a CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Certificate in HR Management, or be able to demonstrate specialist knowledge within this field through practical experience.

They will understand relevant employment and data protection legislation, and be proficient in Microsoft office packages.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

CIPD Level 5 Certificate in HR Management or equivalent specialist knowledge / practical experience

Experience Essential

Previous experience of working in HR / ER Experience of participating in formal HR / ER meetings

Desirable

NHS Experience Experience of Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions Experience working in Unionised environments

Knowledge Essential

Understanding of relevant employment and data protection legislation Proficient in Microsoft Packages Ability to analyse complex information
