About this role

Job summary

We are very pleased to invite applications for a Senior Clinical Fellow (SpR equivalent) in trauma & orthopaedic surgery at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The post will be based either at the Royal Free Hospital or Barnet General Hospital. Elective clinics and trauma will be predominantly at the Royal Free Hospital site and Barnet General Hospital. Elective operating will be carried out predominantly at Chase Farm Hospital and some elective clinics at this site as well.

Main duties of the job

The post is suitable for a person who wishes to improve their trauma and orthopaedic knowledge and skills, participate in teaching, both undergraduate and post graduate, and develop their research interests.

This post will be under the supervision of a named consultant, who will act as the educational supervisor.

The successful candidate will become part of the department, which has 24 consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeons based across the Trust.

The successful candidate will play an active role in the day to day provision of orthopaedic care to our patients. They will also be expected to participate and develop the teaching and research output of the department.

Job description Job responsibilities

The postholder will undertake elective clinics, and will undertake one to two whole day operating lists per week according to demand. Operating lists will be under consultant supervision.

The postholder will be expected to maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of orthopaedic surgery, and will undertake any reasonable clinical responsibility which relates to orthopaedic surgery.

The postholder will be expected to be actively involved in the day to day running of the department. They will be expected to take an active and engaged role in departmental and academic responsibilities as allocated by agreement across the department.

The successful applicants will engage fully and proactively in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit.

The postholder will be expected to engage in continuing professional development.

A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointees and the Clinical Director prior to the commencement date of the appointment.

The posts shall be for 6 months, renewable by agreement. It will cover all aspects of clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities, including a clear schedule of commitments. It shall also include personal objectives.

Education & professional Qualifications Essential

Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice MBBS or equivalent MRCS

Experience Essential

Previous experience of T&O at registrar level Currently in NHS post

Desirable

Previous Experience at registrar level Teaching at both graduate and undergraduate level

Skills and aptitudes Desirable

Undertaken clinical audit Demonstrated high level of leadership, organisational and communication skills with patients and colleagues
