Main duties of the job
The Theatre Coordinator (Vascular Specialty) will provide clinical and operational leadership within the theatre department, ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of perioperative care for patients undergoing complex vascular procedures. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will coordinate daily theatre activity, maintain patient safety, and support both elective and emergency services. Key duties include coordinating theatre lists, staffing allocation, and patient flow to maximise service efficiency and maintain safe skill mix. The post holder will support the management of high-risk vascular patients, respond to operational pressures and clinical concerns in real time, and provide leadership and supervision to junior staff, new team members, and learners. The role also involves ensuring compliance with perioperative safety standards, infection prevention measures, and clinical governance requirements. The successful candidate will contribute to incident investigations, service improvement initiatives, and the implementation of learning outcomes to enhance patient care and theatre performance. Working collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, recovery teams, ward staff, and site management, the Theatre Coordinator will help maintain effective theatre utilisation, equipment readiness, stock control, and a safe working environment, while promoting staff wellbeing, professional development, and high standards of care.

Person Specification
Education/ qualifications Essential
Registered Nurse or Registered Practitioner (confirmed through NMC / HCPC / professional body) Minimum requirement of Degree qualification and post registration qualification applicable to specialist area. Mentorship qualification or equivalent teaching experience
Desirable
Critical Care qualification or ALS/ILS MSc Evidence of research, audit or service improvement projects.
Experience Essential
Recent and varied experience in acute surgical speciality Level 2/3 critical care experience Experience in managing or supervising a clinical team Strong leadership and management experience in clinical setting Proficient in clinical governance, risk assessment and service improvement initiatives.
